How to Save Money at Animal Emergency Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The doctors and staff at the Animal Emergency Hospital were beyond exceptional. We had an emergency with our cat having a urinary blockage. I called to explain my worries and the staff took us right away. They guided us through everything that needed to be done to save his life in a calming manner. I felt like he was in the right hands from the very beginning. After a two day stay, our sweet boy is back home recovering well. The doctors took their time each time I called to explain what was happening and what was to be expected. They thoroughly explained all the things we needed to do in the future to ensure our cat has the best life possible and to avoid this reoccurrence. We are so grateful for them! Thank you for saving Beans!!!!!

It was a very good experience. They took good care of my baby Roxie. Started when I walked through the doors, very clean and calm environment. The staff is very attentive. Everyone is very friendly, they were even smiling at 12 midnight lol. This hospital has a great team and with a great team they have great leaders. And I will take this 40 min drive again if any of my pets experience an emergency. Thank you all for your kindness and your compassion. Don’t ever change!

I cannot express enough gratitude for the exceptional care my kitten received from Dr. Kalwa and Kelly D. about a month and a half ago. When I brought my two-week-old kitten in, he was very sick, and I was understandably anxious. From the moment I arrived, both Dr. Kalwa and Kelly were incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and reassuring. They took the time to explain everything in detail, providing me with the information I needed to confidently care for my kitten. Their genuine compassion and dedication to animal welfare were evident, and it made a world of difference during such a stressful time. Thanks to their expertise and support, I felt empowered to take care of my little one. I truly couldn’t have done it without them. If you're looking for a team that genuinely cares, look no further! Highly recommend!

I have been close to some of the staff at Animal Emergency Hospital for many years, but never from the side of a client with a sick dog in their ICU. I cannot say enough thank you's to the staff for helping with my sweet boy. Nobody wishes to be in the emergency room on a Sunday evening, but they came to my rescue to get his diagnostics done quickly. Dr Kalwa thoroughly explained his case, created a reasonable estimate, and even got him started on pain medications while we waited. Over the next few days, Dr. Willer was amazing in her communication and did an excellent job in surgery, saving him and performing a routine procedure I had requested. Thank you to the technician support staff working behind the scenes, as well as those who personally interacted with me in reception. They were all helpful with updates, sending me pictures, letting us visit, and answering my many phone calls/ questions. Thank you to all the staff for saving Hershey before it got too late! I recommend AEH to anyone with an emergency and urge them to be patient with the staff, as they are incredible.

We took our very old cat (19 yrs) to this ER at night thinking this was it, euthanasia. The staff from our first interaction to the end was amazing. Everyone was so friendly & compassionate. Dr. Alexandra Kalwa was absolutely wonderful & knew just what to do with what she knew from his exam. She laid out our options & was very supportive with our decision to give our boy a chance by treating him. Dr. Jessica Smith was so sweet & called the following day to check on Max. Vet tech Kelly was awesome…we can’t say enough about all the staff! Max is actually much doing better, eating, drinking & back to his old routine. 💕
