How to Save Money at Perry Hall Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It's incredibly apparent that the staff genuinely care about the pets they treat. Reception staff and techs are patient, kind, and empathetic. Dr. H took a lot of time to explain to me exactly what tests she wanted to do and her reasoning for why she wanted to do them in a clear, professional, and empathetic way. They were able to get my cat in within a few days for a sick appointment and gave me a list of symptoms to look out for, if he were to develop any of these symptoms, I could call first thing in the morning and they would try their best to fit me in sooner. I think this is a very good system for people who are trying to decide whether their pet is sick enough to take to an ER. The only downside with the last minute appointments is that they are curbside. I personally don't mind this, but could be a consideration for people with anxious pets. Cost seems to be pretty comparable to most of the nearby clinics I've seen, it's not the lowest cost vet you could possibly go to, but it's much cheaper than waiting too long to get your pet care and then having to foot an astronomical ER bill.

I’ve been coming to Perry Hall for about 15+ years. I left a 5 ⭐️review in the past, but I guess it not there anymore. Three of my fur babies I’ve been patient with Perry Hall. I give Perry Hall a 10 ⭐️ review. The place is clean, welcoming, warm, loving, friendly, there’s just so much positive vibes when walking in. The staff just generally care about your fur babies. They treat them like it was their own. And that’s how I would want it. We have even used them as a reference for rescue. They were a great resource when we needed to treat our exotic animals and point us to into the right direction. Recently, we had to put down one of our fur babies Gunner , we called the morning of to see if they had an available they made arrangements and set up the room. They made it very peaceful and gave us plenty of time. Even when it was over and we left the room one of the staff stand with gunner. They took prints of his paw collected hair and made a memorial ornament. They did this because they cared, and they knew it was hard to say goodbye to your fur baby. Thank you Perry Hall Animal Hospital all that you do.

My dog experienced a potentially serious situation two days ago. I called Perry Hall Animal Hospital at 8:00 AM ,dropped her off at 11:00, and picked her up at 1:00 . The problem was diagnosed , fully explained and the apropriate meds were prescribed. She is rapidly recovering.

Perry Hall Animal Hospital has amazing, patient, and friendly staff. Both of my cats, Sano and Bonjo, have a tendency to develop health issues and Perry Hall is always there for me and them. If you have an emergency, they will do what they can to see your pet asap. The veterinarians are knowledgeable and friendly as well as their staff. If I have any little question or worry at all, I can call and the ladies at the front desk are also knowledgeable and can often answer my question for me. I would not dream of taking my cats to any other vet. I trust them with the health of my boys.

Pros were that I was able to get a last minute appointment on a Saturday, even as a new patient (which seemed a near impossible feat). I was very appreciative of that since my dog was having some concerning issues and I didn't want to resort to an ER. The staff was nice and took time to explain things thoroughly. Cons were that it was a curbside appointment and I would have preferred to accompany my pet so she would be less stressed, since she was already uncomfortable enough due to her illness. I am unsure why they choose to practice in this manner. I also can't speak to the level of care she received since I wasn't present to witness their interactions. The prices of tests also seemed exorbitant compared to what I am use to.
