How to Save Money at Everhart Veterinary Cross Keys

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My little buddy was having a tough time and so we went to see the doc at Everhart Cross keys because I had such a good experience about a year ago. He’s been so good since, and now I have knowledge and tools to help him as we go forward into his ailment. They treated both me and Lionel with respect and dignity -and they seemed to love him!

This location is quiet and great for dogs who are skittish and I find it much better to go here because there is far less barking that occurs at most other places I've ever been to. It's quite peaceful. Lovely the way it's ticked away with trees all over. Also it is a clean, and well maintained practice with a lot of literature and places to walk your dog outside. And if you like to shop, like me, be sure to check out the Williams Sonoma and the exciting new restaurants there in the same shopping mall. Everhart is in the newly revived shopping plaza that is just fabulous. Ok here goes.. I cannot begin to express my gratitude for this amazing group of folks at Everhart. Dr. Goodman and the entire team at their Cross Keys Veterinary Practice are forever my vets. I want to share a personal experience that speaks volumes about their compassion, dedication, and expertise. Late one night, around midnight, I found myself in a truly terrifying situation. My dog, Lucy, had just undergone a fraudulent, early, unnecessary C-section at the hands of another vet in the city who I will not mention here. It was about 2 hours after we brought her home, and she was bleeding from her abdomen far more than I could handle on my own. I was absolutely terrified and had no idea what to do. Dr. Goodman’s wife, Sandy who I chat with as we pass by in the park ( we are neighbors) had previously told me that if I ever had any issues with the delivery, or any other problems, I could bring my dog over to their house, and in that moment of fear, I decided to take her up on the offer. With my heart racing, I bundled the tiny delicate puppies who weighed 76 grams each. And my husband watched them and kept them warm and I gently took Lucy across the street to their home. It was so late, and I didn’t know what to expect, but Dr. Goodman came downstairs, in his pajamas no less, and without a second thought, he cleared off his entire kitchen counter to make room to tend to Lucy. He had never even met Lucy before, and he didn’t know me personally either, but that didn’t matter to him. He immediately stepped in to help, treating Lucy with the utmost care and compassion. Sandy was right there alongside him, offering support and comfort to me during what was the most frightening experiences I’ve had as a pet owner. The way they worked together, their calmness in the face of my panic, and their willingness to help, especially at such a late hour, was absolutely incredible. They went above and beyond. Dr. Goodman’s kindness and dedication left a lasting impression on me, and although the practice bears the name of Dr. Everhart, who is no longer with us, it is Dr. Goodman who carries on the incredible standard of care. Everyone in the city and surrounding areas has known the name Everhart. It is synonymous with excellence and the gold standard across town. He is an amazing veterinarian—caring, knowledgeable, and always willing to go the extra mile for his patients. I have full confidence in his abilities, and I firmly believe that he is the best veterinarian in Baltimore. I also want to give a special mention to Brooke at the Cross Keys location. She does an outstanding job. Every time I’ve interacted with her, she has been kind, efficient, and extremely helpful. I’d love to mention every single staff member by name because they all deserve recognition for their hard work, but unfortunately, I can’t remember all of their names. Just know that the entire team is fantastic! To anyone who might be second-guessing whether or not to trust their pets to this practice, don’t hesitate. Dr. Goodman, Brooke, and the rest of the team are simply the best. They truly care about their patients and their families, and they will go out of their way to provide the best possible care. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Goodman for what he did for Lucy and me that night, and I am so thankful that my dogs well being is in such capable hands. If you’re looking for compassionate, top-notch care for your pets, this is the place to go.

A great team of people, everyone is so professional and friendly. I highly recommend Everharts for your pets needs. They are affordable, fair, honest as far as recommending what your animals needs are, they don't try and nickle and dime you. Scheduling was a breeze. This was my cats first visit to the Dr that I'm aware of, with him being a street kitty I dont know his background. Here's a picture of my boy at the vet visit, this was after being weighed in and examed by the tech, he was cool and calm the entire visit. I was super impressed in they way they dealt my my boy. Everyone from the front desk, to the vet tech and Dr were welcoming and presented themselves professionally throughout my visit. I was recommended here by another animal lover and glad I made the decision to come to Everharts for my fur babies need. I special shout-out to Kristy the practice manager, she such a professional gem!

We really love Dr. Maxon! She’s so kind patient and knowledgeable. Our care here has been wonderful for our growing fur family which includes an aging cat, a young kitten and a 2 year old dog that is shy. Dr. Maxon helped our kitten with GI issues and she has since doubled her weight. Out aging cat keys regular visits and monthly arthritis injections. Our newly adopted dogs first visit went so smoothly as well. She’s shy of new people and Dr. Maxon sat right on the floor with her and while we provided lots of praise and pets and they provided cheese wiz, she got through her exam and all her shots with out any issues. They provide a ton of information to you and paperwork so you can stay on top of preventative care. I feel like their prices are reasonable if not on par or less than other vets. They give fair estimates. And it’s nice that Everhart has another location that is a full service hospital for surgeries as well.
