How to Save Money at Annapolis Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

From day one to the final day of our dogs life Dr. Reed and his team have always been the kindest and most professional people! And we put them through it all! We've been fortunate enough to have met with all of the Doctors in the practice, and they are all absolutely amazing. They are caring, compassionate, and thorough. They listen to you, they take their time in evaluating the dogs AND explaining things to you in a way that you can understand. They really are the best of the best and we appreciate them so much!

I adopted a "challenged" 16-year-old Norwegian Elkhound, Misa, from the shelter approximately 5 months ago. In doing so, I had to find a new vet closer to home. I read the reviews and opted to try Annapolis Animal Hospital. Best decision ever. On our initial visit, the front desk staff were amazing and very accommodating to both Misa and me. The front staff doted over Misa, obviously, despite her age, she's beautiful and you just can't help yourself. We then met with Dr. Sajadian for Misa's initial intake appointment; she too was wonderful and very thorough. In all of my years, I have never had a veterinarian like Dr. Sajadian. In our most recent appointment, she held and hugged Misa from behind while sitting on the floor, keeping in mind that Misa did have a muzzle on for their safety, but gently, helping to keep Misa calm, speaking very softly to Misa in a soothing manner because Misa has a very high level of anxiety at the vets. In this visit Misa was extraordinarily calm and did not exhibit the level of ferocity that she has in the past. With only one mild grumble, Misa sat there and essentially was okay with everything that took place, all the while being consoled by Dr. Sajadian. My heart at that moment was just overwhelmed by the genuine care and affection shown to my nervous baby girl by Dr. Sajadian that I started to well up with tears. FINALLY someone understands Misa and took the time to make a difference and go the distance. The follow up from their office is on point as well. I wouldn't think of using any other veterinarian for my baby girl. This place is amazing and there aren't enough words to tell them just how grateful I am. Thanks to everyone at Annapolis Animal Hospital for your patience with Misa as well as me and the genuine level of care and heart that you provide. You're the best!!

Dr. Chaney did more than wonderful job with Stormy's spay. The closure of the incision was so well done if not for the area being shaved I would have never found it. Stormy had no down time after returning home and she did not require the use of a cone or surgical garment. Dr. Reed is also more than wonderful for Stormy and Stilly's non-surgical visits. He was gentle, understanding, and informative with their exams, shots, and even did the nail trims himself. I have never felt rushed by either of these veterinarians or that my opinions and concerns do not matter because they take the time to listen to their patient's caregivers. Please note this is a smaller practice and although they go above and beyond to be accommodating if you are not proactive in scheduling appointments ahead of time this may not be the best choice.

Dr. Chaney & her entire staff at Annapolis Animal Hospital took excellent care of my dog when we thought she got poisoned. I’m so grateful to have such a dedicated vet who takes the time to talk to me about my pet’s needs. Thanks to Dr. Chaney, my dog is going to be fine! Jacque N.
