How to Save Money at Worcester Cat Hospital & Bird Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Dr. O'Leary and staff are amazing. I've been bringing my cat with special health needs here for four years now and have always received excellent and compassionate service. Dr. O'Leary has gone out of her way to make sure he could be seen by specialists or accepted into emergency vets when she is unable to treat him. Everyone there pretty much remembers my cat and having treated him before and are always so nice to interact with. Prices are competative, the team really, truly cares. I'll always trust my cat's care here.

Nice place and comparatively reasonably priced. Staff and doctor are both very nice too. It's hard to get an appointment and you need to book a few months I'm advance

hate to update a previously positive review, but please. if you love your pets, stay away from here!! over the past couple years, they have vaccinated one of my cats twice in one day, but didn’t vaccinate the other (even though my two cats couldn’t be more different and they BOTH needed vaccines), and didn’t reimburse me in any way. they shaved my other cat’s tail AND neck for critical bloodwork (? it’s been over a month and i haven’t even received the results yet) and gave her razor burn… they also had her information stored incorrectly in two separate files so they mislabeled her as a senior cat and charged me handsomely for critical preventative care she doesn’t even need yet. for my second cat, they charged me for medicine i didn’t ask for and he literally doesn’t even need it!! all this was corroborated by a staff member. also, i never even got to talk to the actual veterinarian! this is not the type of place to work with you when they are making mistakes. they communicate POORLY. i say “they” but honestly, i feel really bad for the technicians / staff. they work so hard, and they’re all so kind. but the veterinarian really drops the ball. based off other reviews, i can see she doesn’t take criticism well so goodness knows how this will go… i hate hate hate to leave a review like this, but if you truly care for animals, get organized and leave the ego out of it. i’ll never, EVER bring my cats here again. and after reading some of the other bad reviews here… i’m shocked this place is still practicing. money down the drain. i feel taken advantage of as someone who just wants the best for my pets. don’t let this happen to you. sure, they may have some good reviews but this place is disorganized! the next time they drop the ball, it could mean something devastating for your beloved pet. is it worth the risk?

Great vet! Took my cat here because he was not eating. Had already been to VSC in sturbridge and paid 500$ to be told our cat had nothing wrong with him. After another week of our cat literally starving himself we decided we needed to take him to another vet. I called for a urgent appointment and they got me in an hour later. Took great care of my cat and found out exactly what was wrong with him, which the other vets were unable to do. Receptionists, nurses, and doctors were all so kind and helpful. We are so grateful for everyone here for helping our kitty! Would definitely recommend, may be semi-expensive but is so worth it for the thorough level of care you get for your pet. Extra edit: staff also made it a point to call even on their weekend off to check on how my kitty was doing. Cannot say enough great things about the staff here!

One has to be mindful reading some of these reviews - sometimes people write wild stories after an emotionally charged encounter or event. I'm so happy we found this Clinic. We thought we found a great Vet in Shrewsbury for our kitten. She has a specific problem & the solution we got from that Vet at the pet store wasn't working. Knowing we needed a cat specialist, I searched and found this Clinic right in Worcester. We went from great to excellent. Our new Vet is extremely thorough - the process of dropping off your pet sounds scary but it's like dropping your child off in school trusting the teachers will look after them. We think it's great that they were able to observe her without us hovering around, as it probably affects the way our kitten would've behaved, and they can complete testing without as having to return with any type of sample. We dropped her off at 9:30AM and picked her up at about 3:00PM. We got a phone call shortly before the pickup letting us know exactly what they found and what we need to do for our kitten's problem. We also received a folder with specific information on her prescription and diet. We paid what we expected for the level of care that we received. Please don't let the reviews scare you - Worcester Cat Hospital & Bird Clinic is the best of the best right in our community! P.S. We were greeted by a very distinguished grey cat that came from the back office, slowly sauntering around like a concierge. He elegantly meowed his "Hello" and purposefully walked back. On our return, she was sleeping peacefully at the window, having completed her morning welcoming task. Enzo made our visit memorable and calming :o)
