How to Save Money at Karuna Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Cora was very pleasant over the phone. She got me an appointment the next day, afte a very easy registration process. The veterinarian was prompt and skilled in dealing with my admittedly difficult cat. She was honest about the issue being out of her scope of work after eliminating other possibilities she gave me recommendations for who to follow up with. The price was reasonable and I will recommend this place to others and return when and if necessary!

We have been going to the vet here about a year and we have had nothing but kindness, convenience, and helpfulness. Even with our needs in between visits! They don’t charge for weigh-ins, which is brilliant because I’ve got two fat cats. Their front desk is super nice, especially Cora! And the Veterinarian, really knows her stuff, especially since we got two strays, and she spot on guessed at them having had kitty flu as babies before we even got them! They seem reasonably priced to me not charging hand over fist and they seem to really care about our two kitties! It is a little quaint being in the basement of someone’s house, but it is extremely clean and they seem to be on top of their game! Haven't needed any emergency services yet but expect they will be dealt with in the same manner! We will be continuing to be patients There! Thank you so much for being Wonderful! I will update if I feel any update is necessary!

My recent visit to Willow's vet appointment was an experience that left me bewildered and concerned. From the moment I stepped into the office, it was evident that cleanliness and organization were not priorities. The shelves were falling apart, and the overall ambiance lacked the professionalism I expect from a veterinary clinic. Instead of being checked in by the staff, I was ushered directly to the examination room by Sarah, who was admittedly pleasant. However, things took a turn for the worse when the doctor arrived. The first red flag was the administration of booster shots in Willow's neck, a practice considered outdated and potentially risky due to the proximity to vital structures. While I understand there may be exceptions, it still left me uneasy. The most bizarre aspect of the appointment came during the discussion about Willow's feeding regimen. Despite providing detailed information about her diet and following recommended guidelines, the vet insisted on increasing her food intake. What's more concerning is that this recommendation was made without acknowledging Willow's current weight or any indication that she was underweight until I mentioned her feeding routine. This lack of attention to detail and failure to address existing concerns left me questioning the vet's competence. When I inquired about the specific amount to increase Willow's food intake, the vet's response was vague and unsatisfactory. She suggested a seemingly arbitrary increase of "2/3 cups" without providing any rationale or considering Willow's individual needs. To make matters worse, the vet suggested feeding Willow so much that she would leave food in her bowl, a recommendation that contradicts basic principles of pet nutrition and healthy feeding practices.

Very caring staff and they don’t try to get you to do stuff that your pet doesn’t need. Been going here for 3 years. My Shorkie loves the vet and staff
