How to Save Money at Woburn Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

For an emergency situation they are amazing I was just disappointed that I got very misleading information from the veterinarian. For $250 the veterinarian would not even clip my dog's nails she told me to continue to feed the dog just boil chicken and rice when my puppy is 3 months old and was malnutritioned because he couldn't hold any food down he was starving he acted like he was from a third world country and never saw food the day I took him in and the veterinarian told me just to give him boiled chicken and rice and continue with that not to change his food I went right to stop & shop and I changed his food to the wet freshpet ever since then my dog hasn't vomited once and he has gained two and a half pounds but the people that work there were extremely kind I was just unsatisfied with the veterinarian she also told me my dog had a genetic disease g.i. disease called guard when the puppy has nothing wrong with him it was just a change in food I don't even want to pay that hospital bill over this

Thank you for all you do. I took my dog (Snowball) here in 2018 for the first time for surgery she had a torn meniscus. Since then she and I have found a new family of caregivers, a big thank you to Dr. Gengo and the entire staff at the Woburn Animal Hospital top notch facility. My pets Snowball it’s now 11 and I still continue to take her to this facility. They have been here every step of the way for her today is just another example of the Woburn animal Hospital being there to help her as they always are.

What a caring place. Had to take my Lab puppy to the hospital after she got a stick caught in her mouth and throat. WAH was so quick to get us seen. The staff is excellent.

I am incredibly picky about my pets care as I’ve had animals my whole life, with cats that lived till 23 in large part because of how much research, time, energy and money I devote to their health. My dogs have been going to Woburn for years now and as they are 15 and 16 there always seems to be one issue or another. But no matter which vet we see at a given time the quality of care is outstanding. You simply won’t find a nicer or more helpful team. We also see an alternative doctor for some treatments and other vets would often judge this or even criticize what we were doing there. But everyone at Woburn has only welcomed any new information I bring in and never once made me feel like I was being dismissed. From the front desk, to the techs, to the doctors; they are truly the best around.

Our 8 year old Golden Retriever Reggie loves going to Woburn Animal Hospital for his medical care! He's been going there since he was a brand new 12-week old puppy. All of the doctors and technicians are friendly and nice and make Reggie feel comfortable and at ease whenever Reggie needs to go for his routine check-ups or preventive care. They rub his ears and give him treats to make his visit special. The main waiting area has plenty of space to spread out and the seats are comfortable. The patient treatment rooms are immaculate , too. The outdoor grounds are beautiful. Reggie has enjoyed his overnight stays as a boarder when we go away. We also took Reggie to K-9 Training classes that are held on-site when he was younger where we met Mike who taught us how to train Reggie into the wonderfully well-trained companion he is today. Reggie and we would recommend Woburn Animal Hospital to anyone who is looking for the best care for their best friend.
