How to Save Money at Porter Square Veterinarian
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We have been bringing our dog here for about 4 years and usually see Dr. Murphy who is wonderful. We have always had such a great experience with her and the rest of the staff. They are very nice, answer all our questions, and are very organized with their care and management. The facilities are clean and pleasant. We love it here!

Best vets in the area and reasonable prices. Vets are thoughtful and will work with you and to meet your pets needs. Our last pup was with them from 1 year until she passed at 13. They knew her and her quirks and we trusted so much to provide her the best care possible. Cannot recomended enough.

*Warning Graphic Image* Been going here for a few years. Vet care is good but will stop doing ear cleanings/claw trims here. 6 months ago I heard the loudest scream from my cat while waiting in the lobby for his ear cleaning. Afterwards realized he became deaf. There's no conclusive evidence of this, so I thought I shouldn't blame them. But during the latest visit something happened again. My cat was returned to me with one claw bloody and mangled looking after a claw trim. But the vet tech didn't say anything about it, just gave me my cat. I had to explicitly point out the bloody paw for them to say something - but they just told me it's normal. I trim his claws every 2 weeks and this has never happened. I've never drawn blood but I've seen a relative accidentally draw blood during a trim. A tiny bit of blood came out, definitely not like this. So yeah, after the ear cleaning incident AND the claw incident I think it's best to not come here or just stick to veterinary stuff and not claw/ear stuff. Attached are before and after pictures of his paw

We've been so happy with Porter Square vet! Our 15mo Golden Retriever has been going since she was 2 months. They're delightful and quick to respond via text when I have a question. 10/10 would recommend.

I've had it with this place. I've been going there since 2010 when Dr. Bujalski was my vet. He was amazing. My current vet is never there when my dog is sick and the other vets make decisions based on what they want, instead of what my vet usually does (do they even look at my dog's records?). My vet specifically told me that if my dog has bloody diarrhea due to her chronic hookworm, to just call and get flagyl prescribed, no problem. Today she wasn't there and the vet on duty refused to prescribe it, instead forcing me to buy a $70 medication in powder form that my dog won't touch. I told them my dog wouldn't eat it, and indeed, she won't. Do they care? Nope. Now I'm broke and my dog is still having bloody diarrhea and crying from pain every time she tries to go potty. Great. And don't even get me started on the fact that it's been 3 years and my dog STILL has hookworms. I'm going to start looking for a new vet. This is unacceptable.
