How to Save Money at Sanctuary Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am so disappointed in all the veterinarian clinics in western Massachusetts for the past two weeks I've been given the run around by like 10 different places including this one, I have a 12 week old kitten with a simple eye infection and NO ONE CARES !!!!!!!!! THIS IS INSANE!!! THE EMERGENCY ROOM IS ALWAYS AN 8-HOUR WAIT .. SOME OF US DON'T HAVE 6 TO 8 HRS TO WAIT AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR AN EMERGENCY VISIT FOR A SIMPLE EYE INFECTION!!!!!! INCREDIBLE! These people really made me feel like they just didn't want to work, I even asked to make an appointment for the future since they are so booked and they refused. What kind of business practice is this?

I've taken both my current and previous furry friends to Holyoke Animal Sanctuary, and they've always received excellent treatment. The staff is knowledgeable and caring, and they've gone above and beyond to ensure my pets are comfortable and well-cared for. I highly recommend Holyoke Animal Sanctuary for anyone in need of top-notch care.

Dr. Perdrizet is the best. With expertise and degrees in both western and eastern medicine, he is able to diagnose and treat ailments with whatever causes the least side effects. I have had dogs for fourth years and this is the only vet that my dogs like to see. That speaks volumes about the care and the attitude the pets receive at the Sanctuary Animal Clinic

I took my dog to The Animal Sanctuary yesterday on the recommendation from a friend who thinks the world of Dr. Perdrizet. My dog has a tumor in his mouth and I wanted a second opinion about what kind of surgery he needs. I called on Monday and spoke to a very nice woman at the front desk who patiently listened to me explain my situation and then made me an appointment for Wednesday. When I arrived at the clinic my dog, who is a little shy, remained calm and even seemed a little curious to check out the place. This is because the environment is calm and peaceful and the staff is very kind and reassuring. They allowed my dog to roam around the examination room and offered him homemade dog cookies. The clinic itself is amazing! It is in a beautiful converted mansion and really something to see. Dr. Perdrizet was great with my dog and very clear and straightforward in his diagnosis. He was patient and empathetic and laid out all the options and what they mean, as well as how much each would cost. They took some blood and the lab results should be back within 24 to 48 hours, which in my experience is very fast. The prices are incredibly reasonable and, as I said, everything is laid out beforehand so there are no surprises when the bill comes. My dog is in for a difficult road ahead and I am relieved to have found a vet that I feel confident in to give my dog the best care and help me make the right decisions every step of the way.

The staff are amazing and work with you to make sure your pet gets the best care possible. The office is in a beautiful Victorian which removes that clinical feel that our pets are often afraid of. The doctor and assistants are very knowledgeable and clearly explain every step during the visit, keeping you involved in your pets' health care and well-being. I absolutely love the holistic approach they follow! These guys are amazing!
