How to Save Money at Petco Vaccination Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The appointment was very quick. The staff were very friendly. No issues at all. Will come back for other vaccinations.

Definitely don’t recommend. I scheduled an appointment and the vet left. So I showed up to my appointment half an hour early and no one was there. They didn’t notify me or anything. I scheduled my appointment in advance and even had text messages with confirmation several times through out the day. What the hell. Super unprofessional. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else

Horrible customer service. I have my dogs vaccinated and now they are refusing to give me a prescription for heartworm meds that they said they were going to send me in my pet records so I can order. Qnd then tell me to use the script for my other dog that I filled 6 months ago because there's one there. Yea well that script is also for dogs under 50bs and my dog is over Not to mention the lady vet that's been at the east Longmeadow vet on Saturdays likes to abuse dogs. She stuck my dog with a needle multiple times to get blood and went straight in like a job and not actually trying to draw blood

Vaccine Clinic: Staff members were very nice, but unbelievably, the vet did not seem experienced dealing with nervous cats. I brought my cat in for an FIV test. He was meowing loudly (not hissing, growling, biting, swatting, etc.) in his carrier because he was scared, just like every cat I have ever brought to a noisy vaccine clinic. Well, the vet looked for any excuse to turn us away. First, she insisted that I had proof of his rabies vaccination. Good thing I had a copy on my phone. And then she interrogated me about his ear tip, if he was feral, and why he needed FIV test. I explained that I had him fixed as a feral at Dakin several months ago, but he is friendly so I brought him indoors over a month ago. He was being tested for FIV because he is being adopted out. The vet then claimed that Dakin always does an FIV test when they neuter (incorrect) and that they don't fix feral cats (also incorrect). I explained that he had been microchipped at a vaccine clinic and had also been treated at the vet without any issues. He never bit or scratched anyone. I even offered to take the cat out of the carrier and hold him, which would have stopped the meowing. She then rudely shut the door in my face, and did end up doing the blood test, which went without incident. On his records, she indicated that they were unable to weigh, take his temperature, or examine him due to his behavior. Really? I saw them take his blood. The cat laid still and didn't even try to get away. All the other clients had dogs so perhaps it is okay for dogs, but I definitely wouldn't recommend bringing a cat here!

PETCO is phenomenal with my boy It's the most stress free place I have ever had the pleasure of bringing him for care. They put my scared dog in a firm hold and the vet is done with the full examination, shots, blood draw, etc in minutes. They are so quick, and efficient the examine is done before you know it. Which is a very good thing in my dogs case, the way they handle him he doesn't have time to get himself into a tizzy. They are extremely calm & I know my dog senses that & it makes him calmer. My first GOOD experience getting his yearly shots/rabies shot was at PETCO and I'm so very happy with their care so is Sam.❤🐾🐾
