How to Save Money at Boston Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Boston Veterinary Clinic saved my dog’s life yesterday and I will forever be indebted to the incredible staff there. My dachshund went into anaphylactic shock after being stung/bit by something at the park. In a panic, I drove him to the nearest veterinary clinic and thankfully, it was this one. I ran into the clinic holding my dog, incoherently babbling and begging them to see him. No questions asked, they brought us into a room and helped him immediately. Though they aren’t an emergency clinic, they didn’t hesitate to stabilize him for long enough to bring him to the MSPCA. Additionally, Boston Veterinary is not our primary provider. We moved to the city a few weeks ago and our primary is about an hour away. We had never been here before, and yet they didn’t take a second thought about helping an owner and their beloved pet in need. Aside from the medical care they provided, the staff’s professionalism is truly incredible. I can’t imagine how alarming it was to have a crying stranger burst through their door on a random afternoon, but the staff treated me with such kindness and respect. Even while my dog was in the back room, they gave me regular updates and helped calm me down, which certainly was not in any of their job descriptions LOL. I cannot thank the vet, technicians, and other employees enough. If you’re looking for a vet, GO HERE. The employees care very deeply about their patients and it shows. Plus, the place itself is very clean and quite beautiful! If I wasn’t in an absolute panic at the time, I would have definitely enjoyed being there a lot more. We ❤️ Boston Veterinary Clinic.

Dr. Lindsey was incredibly kind and gentle with both me and my puppy! She truly cares about the animals and their owners! She patiently answered all of my questions and I felt confident in the merit of her responses. My dog absolutely loves coming to BVC and we will certainly continue coming here.

Such a fantastic experience! Recently switched over from a different vet who had a very hard time managing my dog’s anxiety. Everyone here is very professional, calm and patient with anxious pups. My dog has been seen twice and they managed her anxiety so well. The location is very convenient and it’s in a brand new really nice space. Highly recommend!

They removed the cancer from my dog and she is in great shape and back to her normal self. That's worth 10 stars but I can only give 5. I came here as a new client having just moved into the area. Unfortunately, my first routine visit included concern about suspicious lumps on my dog Brook. Dr. G and the team took us in for surgery very quickly. They were incredibly kind and caring both pre, during and post surgery. They give printed sheets with information about care for the medications and pre/post surgical instructions which was very helpful because I find when I'm really stressed about something I cannot remember a single word someone tells me. They were also helpful when we had some post-surgery diarrhea and we got that under control. Overall, excellent experience. I trust this vet and staff deeply. They earned it. During every visit we were treated with kindness and patience, and they were so gentle and good with Brook. Brook honestly LOVES coming here. I think she would move in if she had the choice. Prices are on par with "MA city vet" prices. If you come from a different state or a rural area, it might surprise you, but for this area, its standard. Thank you Dr. G and BVC clinic for taking care of Brook!!
