How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This was my Rosie's first visit to a full vet clinic not just a mobile for vaccines. I have been so reluctant because of both mime and Rosie's separation anxiety. I opted to be a good parent and I allowed Rosie to be escorted to the back of the clinic to be seen so that my anxiety would not make it harder for the exam. I was a wreck but my Rosie came back quite calm and only got mildly anxious when she came back in and saw me which might have been because she could sense my anxiety which is part of her job as my service dog. If you are a nervous pet parent I would highly recommend Dr. Landry and Aliana. Thank you for making the us feel as comfortable and cared for when Rosie got injured.

The staff was knowledgeable and kind to me and my pet. I received good and honest information. The room was very cold and uninviting, and it wasn’t made clear that my baby would be taken away from me for the exam. I was very uncomfortable with that, and it was worse because I was left alone during that time in the cold empty room. My girl came back fine, and the vet had good recommendations, but the corporate look and feel emotes that you don’t care about the parents or babies, even while your vets and techs clearly do a lot.

My baby (11 year old cat) got out and was unfortunately taken for a little adventure by a local TNR program even though she had a collar and had already been spayed 11 years prior. When she came back, she was really sick, vomiting, and wouldn’t eat much. I made a very last minute appointment at Vetco to get her checked out because I was concerned. Vetco was very friendly and accommodating on such short notice. The vet tech, Crystal, was my first point of contact. She was thorough and made sure to get all of Luna’s information. She then asked if it was okay to take Luna to a separate room to do her exam, but mentioned they could do it in the room with me if I was uncomfortable with her being away from me. After the exam, Dr. Larive came and explained how the exam went and recommended some tests to make sure Luna wasn’t exposed to any illnesses during her adventure. Crystal repeated all the tests Dr. Larive wanted to run and broke down all the prices for me so I could make an informed decision. The woman at the front desk who checked me out was also very pleasant, though I only spoke to her for a brief moment. The next day, the clinic sent me a message checking in on Luna and making sure I didn’t have any other concerns. Dr. Larive & Crystal made me feel so comfortable even though I was initially a nervous wreck. I’ll definitely be getting Luna’s annual exams and vaccinations done here in the future.

This place is the worst vet iv ever been too. They refused to my kitten her last vaccine. What a waist of my time. I'm trying to keep my kitten happy and healthy. Acted like I didn't know what vaccine my cat needed. Could of asked me to bring her records never did ask me for that. Even tho they knew what I was booking for. Like I don't know what vaccines my cat has had. Wanted to know what my cat was eating. Like that is any of there business. She is a healthy beautiful strong little kitten who needs her last vaccine not for you to question me about what kind of pet over I am. What kind of vet are you to refuse to give her a very important vaccine that she needs.

Love this clinic! The staff is caring, the vets are knowledgeable. It’s easy to get an appointment and the midtown location can’t be beat. They don’t go overboard with tests and medications as I’ve noticed some clinics do. My cat is in good hands there. Highly recommend!!!
