How to Save Money at Cat Hospital of Metairie
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
The vets were so helpful. We went to another vet prior and they estimated the costs would be 1,000$ just to figure out what was wrong with her, and made us pay $60 for an exam with no medicine. However, at the Cat Hospital of Metairie, they gave us medicine and an exam the same day for $80. They treated my cat as if she was a family member, not just another pet owner to get money out of. They gave my cat treats while I was there and the vet was very caring and patient. They even have sweet cats that they keep there that lounge around! You can tell they genuinely care about your cat and want the best care for you and your pet. I cannot recommend enough.

I truly can not say enough positive things about this vet's office. They go above and beyond to care for the cats they see and are exceptionally kind and compassionate with their humans, as well. I saw both vets and absolutely loved their bedside manner and willingness to answer all questions. My cat had a rare autoimmune condition which required careful treatment and protections. The folks who work here were unbelievably supportive and kind to me when I experienced a lot of unexpected difficulties in my life and was doing my best to keep my ESA, best friend and fur-baby Tamarind safe and healthy. I never once felt judged, dismissed or unsafe there. This is a queer friendly business, too! Dr. Thibeau and Kat the PA/receptionist were especially compassionate and kind. I know they also help out Trap Dat Cat with vetting services for community cats which is an incredibly generous and caring thing to do! Thank you all so much for your support through a very hard time. Be sure to let them know if you have insurance, or if money isn't an issue. Unlike most vets they seem to tend to assume folks are low on financial resources and will often suggest the more affordable routes when it comes to testing, treatments or meds. This is amazing! But they will maybe have other recommendations depending on your financial situation. It was profoundly refreshing to encounter a vet that seemed more motivated to make care accessible for cat owners than to nickel and dime them into poverty.

Dr. Miller’s service is always extraordinary. She is patient and knowledgeable with my Luka because he is aggressive during veterinarian appointments. I had another veterinarian hospital that refused care for my fur baby. I highly recommend the Cat Hospital of Metairie because no cat is left behind! THANK YOU! ❤️🐾

This was our first visit. And I can't think of anything that would make my visit better that you guys could do. Now, if I could just make my cat behave and not act like a wild man. It would be a better experience for all of us lol.

I can't say enough good things about the doctors and staff here. They took wonderful care of our 17-year-old cat until the end. Other vets I tried weren't equipped to handle a feisty former feral or even refused to see her, but the Cat Hospital treated her adeptly and compassionately. We were even able to arrange a house call when it came time to say goodbye.
