How to Save Money at Dodge City Veterinary Hospital, A Thrive Pet Healthcare Partner
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I can’t say enough good things about Dodge City Vet! Dr. Carr has been absolutely wonderful in caring for my pets, The Dude (my cat) and Dumpster (my dog). Her expertise and genuine care make every visit a positive experience. I also want to give special thanks to Kate at the front desk—her kindness and attention to detail are top-notch. Overall, this is a fantastic team that truly cares about animals, and I’m grateful for the outstanding service they provide. Highly recommend!

They had so much compassion and kindness when treating my cat cheese! I literally brought him in a pull up box because I didn’t have a carrier. They squeezed him in for an emergency appointment and even helped me get out the door by a specific time so I wouldn’t be late!

We brought both of our dogs to get their check ups, shots, and tested for heart worm, flea meds, etc..etc.. The tech that came in to talk to us was friendly enough. She ran thru what we were requesting and told us that it was going to cost us over $800.00 for this regular yearly check-up!! I was floored. We have always used Dodge City for our animals, but we will not be doing this again. We have never had to pay these outrageous prices, ever. Our dogs are inside dogs, one weighs 4 lbs, and the other weighs 9lbs. The vet and assistant acted like they were best pals planning a night out or something. They left the room with each dog individually. They brought one back and then the other. When they came back into the room, they were talking to each other about, well, I really don't know. The vet said,"Well, they both tested negative for everything." I addressed my concerns that the little one had some drops of blood when using the bathroom. The vet then commenced to tell me,"Well, that they weren't able to get a stool sample from him, and it was probably just a fissure or something." Told me to keep an eye on him and let her know if it continues to happen. Well, of course, I called back, letting them know that it hadn't changed, and I was concerned. Should I bring him back to be checked again? I asked if we were going to have to pay again since they obviously did not do an exam on him. I was told that they recommend I put him on some probiotics. I asked how much that would cost since he obviously didn't even get the exam we were charged for. They said 25$ for 10 days worth or 35$ for a months worth. When I questioned the situation. I was told that she wasn't the doctor who saw them, but she would leave a message for that doctor to call me back. I've been waiting just about a week for the return call, which I have not yet received. I am concerned for my little one, especially since they have already told me that both were negative for everything. Maybe she just forgot that she had just finished telling me that she wasn't able to get a stool sample from him!!! I was charged for it, and I am just in disbelief that there was no concern for him whatsoever and was told to get back with her if it didn't stop. Which of course I have but had to leave a message for her, which she hasn't even done. It is obviously not in the hands of the previous owners. I am just shocked at the costs, the way they charge you for things that have not even been done, and still no return call. Unbelievable. This place has never been like this before, nor have the erroneous charges for services that have not been actually rendered. I am going to make them follow up regarding my little one, and then we will never use this place again. I love my animals too much for them not to have the proper care that I paid for. Good luck to Dodge City going forward. I should have figured something was wrong when there were no other vehicles in the parking lot !!! I'm just saying double-check your expensive services as they might not have really been done!!!
