How to Save Money at Resurge Veterinary Surgical Specialists and Rehabilitation

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Wow. Where do you begin? These kind people are totally committed to the health and well being of your pet. Our little dachshund Daisy ruptured a disc and needed back surgery. Dr. Yates was so very thorough in his diagnosis and treatment plan for our dog. The support staff there is so caring and considerate. We could not be more pleased with our experience at Resurge. So grateful for their care and our dog is back to her normal self! We hope your dog does not have a serious spinal issue, but if they do, this is the only place to come. Miracles are made here.

Resurge gave me another month with my sweet Giovanni that I would never have had without them. Their care and commitment to my little one helped us get through the toughest time we've ever had. They made him like a puppy again for the last month of his life, and I know they did everything in their power to heal him. They were there to the very end, and I would never trust anyone but Resurge to care for another one of my baby's neurological health.

Very disappointed in our appointment on September 19th Dr. Bogey Yates. We brought our little Lottie for an initial consultation because we thought she was having some neurological problems. We weren't sure if it was neuro or something else that was affecting her. Dr. Bogey took her in the back and gave her an examination and pretty much said there were different tests she could have but there wasn't anything definitive unless we did imaging and extensive testing. I asked when we left for the progress notes from our visit to bring to her visit with her opthalamologist the following Wednesday. The check out girl said she would email us the notes. Weekend came and gone & Tuesday I called about the notes and he hadn't done them yet. Really??? BUT...The icing on the cake was when I called Wednesday morning the day we were seeing her eye doctor and was told he was going to do the notes that day. I told them we had a 1:00 pm appointment & I needed the notes to let her know her status. Then, the office girl called back and asked if we could resend the videos that I had already sent by email when I was there again. A little while later we received the progress notes. What office makes a patient wait a week to receive the notes from their visit, the girl in the front that I spoke with made it sound like this wasn't the first time this has happened. They definitely wanted their payment right then and there plus when I made the appointment I had to pay a $50.00 deposit for the appointment and that would be credited on my bill. Finally when we received the notes it was like reading a general form letter. I sent the progress notes to both of Lottie's doctors who both concurred that the diagnosis was really a generalization and not pin pointing anything specific that could have shed some light on her condition and her situation. Very disappoining to say the least.

Don't hesitate to bring your pet here for a surgical procedure. You won't be disappointed! Dr. Ladato and her staff went above and beyond, to make my wife and I feel comfortable and stress free. The communication from this office is amazing. We received calls before and after the surgery, then again after going home. Sent us a picture of our girl while she was in the hyperbaric chamber. I would use them again and highly recommend them. Pet. (Sofie) DS
