How to Save Money at Logan County Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Many years ago, this was a great place to take your pet. Today, however, would not recommend. All they care about now is the money. It almost seems like they will make up things to do so the bill keeps mounting. And don't even act like you're going to bring up making payments. They will toss you out of there so fast.

I’ve gone here once and never plan on going back. They were polite at the front desk but when I asked questions and talked about the amount it would cost, That’s when they got rude and snippy. They charge an insane amount for the lack of customer care in my opinion. Later went to another clinic in Russellville And this place had amazing service and kindness. It really does matter how you treat people.

My dog started throwing up, she wasn’t feeling well and wasn’t eating. We called the vet and informed us it would cost more since it was after hours and holidays. We agreed and then he went to the clinic. My dog is very emotionally attached to me, she’s not just a dog she’s my family, she’s a big part of my life. So to see that the clinic was empty, broke my heart because I know she was going to be crying all night. I asked if anyone would be here, how that would work and they assured me that people would be checking in on her. After the day, today in the morning, instead of receiving a call for an update on Honey, my dog, I was told that since my daughter was helping me by paying the medical bills I wasn’t going to be called. My daughter works in the morning and agreed that any calls should come to my phone since she is my dog, not my daughters, she was just helping me pay. I was not informed for one that the clinic would be closed today, I was not informed if she ate today, and I was not the first person to be informed of my dogs condition because I was not the one paying even though the contact information for Honey is mine. I’m always thankful that they’re taking care of her but I feel that they only see this as a business and the well being of the dog emotional wise as a secondary thing, almost without a thought.

Was treated with muscle. On the phone we explained that we didn't have the money for the visit. The lady on the phone said to come in. We did and the help came in the room. Telling them the same thing about the money and our dog is bad off. We are seniors and I'm a veteran. And only get paid at the first. Unexpected bill. The help sent in the muscle in and he had to explain that they can't help him. So we took him to Nashville animal care. And we were treated great and a miter intense care and kindness. All was taken care.

Raven and Willow LOVE everyone at Logan County Animal Clinic. It's the only vet they've known in their 9 years, and that 9 years has been full of all sorts of "fun" - allergies, autoimmune issues, heart murmurs, and several surgeries. I never would have guessed that a clinic in Russellville, KY would be able to handle everything we throw at them, but we are so thankful that they are! Everyone from the ladies up front to the techs in the back are a pleasure to work with and have always gone out of their way to work us in when needed or answer any questions (and I usually have a lot). Our girls are especially fond of Caitlin and Kim, but Anthony is growing on them :) You can tell everyone there really loves their job and treat the patients as they would their own furbaby. We love Dr. Todd and recently met their new vet, Dr. Hudson, and she is a wonderful addition to the team! She was patient and kind with our nervous girl and gave her a clean bill of health. From the first conversation, you can tell she has a passion for her patients and great bedside manner. The recent addition of extended hours is extremely helpful for us, and I'm sure many others, and something you just don't see in this area. I can't recommend them enough.
