How to Save Money at Veterinary Associates Stonefield

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’ve been a patient of Samuel Vaughn for probably 3-4 years through high recommendation of my mother for exotic vet and loved him so. He took excellent care of my parakeet and added years to my parakeets life and saw my dog Ophelia for check up and was always spot on and of the highest quality. His practice has a new vet who saw my dog Ophelia today and she was absolutely amazing and very spot on!! I thought nobody compared to Dr. Vaughn but I was very pleasantly surprised and impressed with over all care and recommendations she had for my dog Ophelia. She addressed every concern for me and Beau got me an appointment very quickly which was very much appreciated in my time of need. I felt very comfortable with the Vet and would highly recommend to other pet owners for all pet needs and concerns!!

Dr. Roppel has been my vet since she got out of vet school. I have followed her everywhere she has practiced as simply put, she is the best vet in town. She has always been there when I needed her. I love that she is now teamed up with Sherri and Beau, two of the best vet techs in town with tons of experience. Looking forward to many more years with your practice.

Same Old Me

I brought my guinea pig to this location due to an ear infection and URI. They were able to get me in the following day and was brought back to a room as soon as we got there. They were very thorough with their questions pertaining to how she had been doing and went over the treatment plan to help her to a quick road to recovery. Our visit was quick from start to finish and we were on our way before we knew it with a 2 week follow-up to check her progress. What impressed me the most was the Dr calling me early the next morning to see how my little guinea pig was doing. Not sure I have had anyone do that before. I absolutely do recommend this place to anyone! It is a really easy location to get in and out of.

The receptionist were very nice ladies. The vet himself though, absolutely unprofessional. “Vet Von” if you even want to call him a vet, was a complete unprofessional pathetic excuse for a vet. First off, he came in and didn’t even introduce himself at all, second he decided to be very rude towards me when I was asking questions about my pet. He then proceeded to inject my pet with “medicine” even though he never specified what type of medicine it was or why he was doing it and when I asked him if that’s what would help her his simple response was “well that’s why you’re here ain’t it” disgusting! Very unprofessional, will never be taking my pets back ever and I hope that all of you can read this before you decide on this vet because I’m telling you now. PICK. SOMEWHERE. ELSE.

This was my first visit here, and can say, I won't go anywhere else for my puppy kids. Everyone from the staff talking to me over the phone, Dorothy and Bo, to Dr. Vaughn, were very friendly and patient with all of my questions and concerns and treated my little guy just like he was one of their own. They have the best pricing around by far and also offer new customer coupons on their website. They also take care of all kinds of other animals. I highly recommend them. Update: I took my mini dachshund to get neutered today and what amazing service. Dr. Vaughn called me after the procedure to let me know how everything went and how my little boy was doing. They did a great job and not only made him feel better but me as well. I am so glad I found this office. Such caring staff and Dr. Vaughn has great humor and care for all animals.
