How to Save Money at Jefferson Animal Hospital & Regional Emergency Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Horrible I mean horrible service . I brought in a 2 week old kitten who was extremely weak. Hope came to us quickly and told us what she was going to do . And told us she doesn’t think this would be an end of life situation . That was a relief . We waited about 2 hours before Dr. Sayre seen us and they sat us in the euthanasia room . We thought maybe it was because the rooms were already taken . She comes in and said “he’s dying you have 3 options but honestly the first one is expensive and he’s not worth the minimum 2,000 bill. You could also take him home and do extensive care of feeding every 15 minutes and that means you can’t sleep , or leave him alone , and the final is we put him down and that’s what I recommend” Then she proceeded to brag about how she breeds dogs that have breathing issues and they die all the time and she knows what she’s doing and told us we can get 4 show quality cats for the price of the vet bills we have on him already. She also slid in the fact that we should just adopt a healthy cat and not take in the sick and dying ones. We said we’re taking him home to give him a chance because he fought this long he can do it again with proper instructions and medication. We leave the room and Hope came out and told us his body temp was getting better and she was going to tube feed him . We told her what Dr. Sayre told us and she was shocked at the information she told us and assured us that he’s not at the end of life stage he just needs a lot of attention and commitment to make it. And she walked us through everything . Hope was amazing by far she actually cared and gave us the time out of her night to help not only our kitten but also us. She gave us the hope (no pun intended) on our baby kitten. I honestly wished I could give a better star review but Dr. Sayre ruined the hospital for us for the final time. But hope she’s a great vet tech and has such a huge heart for animals. 1 week update - he’s still alive and thriving to the point he’s gained weight , eating 10x more than he was. We never gave up on him unlike the vet who wanted to end his life that night 2 month update - he’s 4 pounds no eye infection and is in perfect health

We took our puppy, Noodle, here for an allergic reaction. They took her back and treated her immediately. The vet tech gave us very regular updates on her, letting us know how she was doing and what the next steps would be. We took her home about 1.5-2 hours later. Unfortunately, Noodle had an abnormal allergic reaction and she relapsed. We called them to let them know and they advised us to bring her back. She was again treated immediately. The same vet tech was there from our earlier visit and she was super nice again. Noodle had to be hospitalized overnight to be monitored, making sure she didn’t go into anaphylaxis. The veterinarian was very thorough. He explained what tests were given, the results, and how they impacted his plan of action. I picked Noodle up the next morning. She looked so much better. All of the front desk said bye to Noodle, pet her, and gave her love. I really feel like she was in such good hands there. They truly treated Noodle like she was their own. They were nothing but helpful, nice, and thorough. This was our first visit. Regarding pay, you pay for everything up front, but they give you and low and high end of what things could be. I personally like this because it shows you both sides of the spectrum and what charges could be anticipated. It is better to know than be surprised! I am really thankful for this hospital and how great they were to Noodle.

Our cat was having urinary issues and the first vet we called basically said we needed to come in with $1000 or they couldn't help. We called the nice people here and they walked us through what to do and check for, told us how to manage his care overnight so that we could take him to his normal vet when they opened the next day. They were SO kind and went above and beyond to give us advice. We haven't taken any of our pets here but that level of free service and care says a lot about the people who work here.

We had to bring in our sweet baby Zeus at 4am this morning. He was 11 years old and diabetic for 1.5 years. I knew the end was near and didn’t want him to suffer. Our Great Pyrenees woke us up to alert us that Zeus was in trouble. He was having continual seizures. As painful as it was, we knew it was time to let him go. The staff was amazing. Kind, Caring, and Compassionate…The heartbreak will be there forever, but the staff was amazing during this difficult time.

I had a positive experience at Jefferson Animal Hospital despite not being able to see a vet. The staff were incredibly nice and transparent about the wait times, which ranged from 2 to 5 hours on a Sunday evening. The waiting room was clean and well-maintained. Though my puppy wasn’t seen due to the long wait, the staff were understanding and recommended we visit another facility for more immediate care. I appreciate their honesty and the care they provided in advising us. Thank you, Jefferson Animal Hospital!
