How to Save Money at FMA Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our dog was having health issues that were not being treated properly at a vet clinic on the same street and I got fed up with my puppy being anxious and not feeling well while having my concerns not taken seriously. We switched over to FMA for a second opinion and it was like a totally different experience. I am allergic to cats so I have my partner go in with our puppy and the whole office was understanding in letting me call in to be present for the appointments. Both father/son vet teams are so open and understanding while speaking from their professional experience and pet owner experience. They spent as much time needed to answer all my questions while tackling my dog’s health issues as a team. Yes, as a team. They made sure we were comfortable and knew the pricing of all options. They charge half of what the previous vet charged and offer more care and understanding. They are amazing and I am so happy to finally have a good vet. Our puppy got the right diagnosis and treatment and is doing much better. If I stayed with the previous vet, I would be in and out of emergency clinics and my puppy would have stayed sick for much longer. Thank you for all your help Dr. Alex, Dr Ron, and the supporting staff. You’re the best!

I took my dog here her whole life for her regular appointments. When it came time to relieve her suffering at the end of her life, the staff at FMA couldn't have been more respectful and accommodating. It was one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do but they made us as comfortable as they possibly could given the situation. I thank them with the utmost sincerity from the bottom of my heart. When I'm ready to adopt again I'll certainly bring them to FMA.

Definitely felt like a vet I had been going to for years during our first visit! Non-judgmental, helped breakdown options and price points, addressed all my concerns and extremely kind/gentle. I will say be aware of their policy on no confirmation for your first visit! They cancel your appointment if you don’t confirm, which is understandable considering no-shows with animal care takes away from care from someone else but I felt real bad about not knowing that and missing the message! I’ve come here multiple times before our first visit for food for C/D food for my cat and have always been treated kindly. Definitely glad to have found a vet in the area 🙂

Switched over from a vet at Westwood several years ago and only wish we’d done it sooner - FMA is incredible. Dr. Alex is great; my dog is larger and Dr. Alex is very good at making him comfortable and simultaneously doing an exam. Recently my dog had a teeth cleaning and I called the next day to discuss something I noticed that hadn’t been communicated with me. Within 15 minutes, they had discussed it with the vet techs and called me back with more answers. Could not be more impressed with their attention to detail, compassion and patience.

The staff at FMA is great! I called for an emergency appt on Thursday 2 mins before they closed and they still took my call and were able to see me the next day! Also thankful for Dr. Alex honest opinion! I’ve had great experiences with both Drs I’ve seen within the last year:)
