How to Save Money at Fox Hill Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We scheduled an appointment for our cat to seen by the veterinarian, and we have not used their grooming or boarding services; so, this review is for veterinarian services. This was our first time scheduling an appointment, and I was pleased that they could accommodate us in just three days. The appointment was for 8:30 AM, but were told to arrive at 8:15 to fill out paperwork--pretty standard for all veterinarians and doctor visits. We arrived at 8:15. This is a small facility, and our sick cat was in is kennel surrounded by large dogs, which stressed him out even more most veterinarian visits. After sitting in the front lobby for 35 minutes, we were taken into an exam room and left there for another 10 minutes. At no point in time were we notified to expect a delay, and we finally got fed up with having to wait half an hour past our scheduled appointment. This lack of consideration by the veterinarian and her staff was enough to inform us that we didn't want our cat in their care. When we informed the staff that we were leaving, this is when they said that there was an emergency that caused us to have to wait. Well, nobody told us this until we wasted 45 minutes (not including driving time) of our lives, and stressed out our cat unnecessarily. Take note that if you always allow service providers to make you wait past the time that THEY scheduled you for, then they will have no reason to improve this problem, and your long waits will become the norm. Take your pets to veterinarian who show consideration of your time. I give this veterinarian two stars because they did schedule us in just three days after I called, and the veterinarian did call us later that day to apologize for making us wait, and for not telling us that we would have to wait due to an alleged emergency.

We had never been here before, but recommended to us by our vet, Dr. Geri, who visits our fur babies at our home. Our German Shepherd, Lucy, broke one of her bottom canine teeth, and we needed a vet that provided dental. Dr Geri sure knew where to send us, Fix Hill. From the moment Lilly answered the phone, I had a really good feeling. Lilly was so kind, compassionate and helpful. She said she would talk to Dr Alexander and call me back. Then, to my surprise, Dr Alexander herself called me and talked me through what she would do if we brought Lucy in. She was so kind, compassionate and unhurried in our conversation. She even said, depending on the break in the tooth, we may not need to do anything. To my surprise, they were able to see Lucy that day! Our experience at their office was so wonderful. The team there is just wonderful, they ALL are caring/compassionate and love what they do. They were wonderful with Lucy, and with my son and I. Dr Alexander explained all options, worse to best case scenario for Lucy’s tooth. First thing we need an X-ray. So, we decided to make an appt for teeth cleaning since Lucy will need to be under anesthesia for X-ray and we can do both at that time. This team is excellent. Our experience was a 10 for sure.

I have been taking both of my cats here for 7 years now. Always great experiences. For everything including grooming. Dr Alexander and team are my favorite!

We love the care our pets receive from the staff and Dr. Alexander! Dr. Alexander saw our sweet lab from 8 weeks old until it was her time to go at age 14. The boarding is reasonably priced and we know our pets are well cared for when we’re away. We are able to make and get appointments scheduled quickly and rarely have to wait.
