How to Save Money at AcuteVet - Veterinary Urgent Care Clinic of Overland Park

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This place did a great job! From the moment I called ahead they were taking care of us. They got us right into a room so I didn’t have to wait in the waiting room. They immediately got my paperwork started and started working on my pup. They did everything they could to try to weed out what could be wrong no opting to surgery first. It was pricey but we had to get x-rays done and induce vomiting. I will absolutely to go back here when I need to. The place was extremely clean and the staff was beyond friendly. They did a great join keeping me on the loop about his care, costs, and what next steps would or could be. They even called to check up on us the next day and remind me how late they were open if we needed anything. 10/10 would recommend.

Came here my cat was vomiting and not doing good. They took the time and found the cause. Would recommend going here. Not as pricey as rest of er vets. Saved her life and wasn’t pushy on what services to perform next or make me do the surgery there. Even recommended me to a cheaper vet to do the surgery. This is what my cat ended up having around her intestines.

My Labrador fell ill quickly, and I was able to walk in after being referred by my trusted vet for emergent care after normal office hours. The staff was amazing, and Dr. Blouin sat down and answered all my questions and took amazing care of Echo. The Vet Techs and support staff were the best ever. For those of you who weren’t born millionaires, this place did not break my bank. I am very appreciative of the help my Echo received. Thank you and God Bless, Raichel, Eliot and Echo

The caring staff helped my 5 day old orphaned kitten who was having trouble with constipation. They even called the next day to check on her. And the prices are very reasonable. Thank you all for being there for Raylyn when she needed you!! **UPDATE** Our kitten turned 5 weeks old yesterday. Thank you Acute Vet staff for helping her thrive! As you can see from her new picture, she is a happy girl!!

I had a very good experience bringing my 12 year old Australian Cattle Dog in today. It was initially an emergency and I called ahead, so they had a stretcher in the lobby ready to go. They let us wait in an empty exam room while they checked her out. Thankfully they were able to get her stabilized pretty quickly. While we did spend a good chunk of the afternoon waiting, I didn’t mind at all. You don’t want to be the priority in an emergency/urgent care clinic - that would mean your situation is dire. I would prefer to wait around a few hours rather than say goodbye to my dog. The vet was excellent. She was thorough, made great recommendations in regard to how to proceed, and my dog loved her…which isn’t always the case with vets. The bill was also fairly priced for an urgent care clinic. I’m hoping I don’t have to use their services again, but if something else does happen to one of my pets, it’s a relief to know that I have a great place to bring them!
