How to Save Money at Country Hill Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Disappointed with how this situation was handled. Our dogs Champ and Mango have been going here since they were puppies. My husband is a firefighter and was up all night at work as there were a ton of medical and fire calls that night and didn’t get any sleep and forgot to take them to their appointment for some vaccines. He told me he was never warned about a $25 charge and the person he spoke with on the phone was rude about it so he hung up. When he left a review he was told it was policy which I understand but if we were advised of the “policy” when he missed the first appt we would’ve had no problem paying the fee! We tried to find the policy online after the fact on their website and couldn’t locate it. We have always had good experiences taking our pups here and its disappointing that we weren’t given a warning about a charge and then fired from the vet’s office. Seemed unprofessional.

We truly appreciated the professional, kind, and prompt care we received from Country Hill Animal Clinic. We had a very senior dog who was experiencing multiple symptoms due to his age. We wanted a close by location for treatment because he felt discomfort during movement. We contacted Country Hill Animal Clinic and even though our cherished dog had not been seen at this clinic before, they treated him and us with the utmost respect, kindness, and care. Prior to saying good-bye to our much loved pet, the vet gave him a gentle examination and listened to our observations in his recent struggles. With understanding and compassion, she explained her observations and what we could expect in the future. After our decision to say good-bye to our special companion, the staff gave us time to shower him with love and special treats. When we felt ready, the vet and assistant came in to compassionately begin his final journey. As they explained and completed the process, they lovingly petted him along with us sending him into the absence of pain and suffering. They gave us privacy afterwards allowing us as much time as we needed for our final good-bye After leaving the office, the assistant came to our car and delivered a paw print to take with us. We left the clean clinic office heartbroken but appreciative to the incredible staff for their compassionate guidance as we navigated this difficult time. We are forever grateful.

This place is wonderful! My cat needed to be seen on Sunday, emergency services at another clinic. I followed up the next day with Country Hill Animal Clinic and they made me feel so much better about the situation, even getting me in within an hour when things took a turn a couple days later. Country Hill Animal Clinic is a great place to take your pets! A+++

This vet clinic is the best there is. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and they treat your animals like their own. I’ve been bringing my animals here for several years even though I live over an hour away. Now, because I love and believe in this clinic so much I feel compelled to mention that the last couple of 1 star reviews are by someone (just one person with several accounts just to be a troll…yeah people can see that, it’s not slick) who just isn’t happy about anything and can’t take responsibility for their own actions. Leaving several bad reviews for a small business just because you “don’t want to read the policies” is a total jerk move. Most businesses have a no call/no show policy. I mean, a lot of actual jobs fire people for no call/no shows. Everyone knows that’s just how life is. But go off about your $25 fee, buddy.
