How to Save Money at Neighborhood Vets Mobile Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

What an awful experience! If I could give zero stars, I would. The vet was extremely rude and acted like the visit was an inconvenience. Despite the fact that I provided detailed information when I called to schedule and emailed all vet records and documentation they requested prior to the visit, the vet acted as if he had no information about our situation. I called SEVERAL mobile vet services before choosing this one. I asked specific questions to find the right fit. My 150-pound central Asian shepherd, Maya, will not get into a vehicle to go to the vet because she associates cars with trauma. She was hit by a car and had to have her spine rebuilt in 2019. When the vet arrived, his wife said to bring Maya into their sprinter van. Of course she wouldn’t go near the massive vehicle, much less get in it. The vet seemed put out from the beginning: no greeting, no warmth, no compassion, no attempt at connecting with Maya. She wagged her tail, excited to meet a new visitor but wouldn’t go toward him or the van. The vet said, “If you can’t control your animal, I’m not doing an examination.” ??? I tried to explain how much she needed this exam and medical care. He did not even touch her, greet her, nothing. He took one look at her infected toe and said, “You’ve got to amputate that.” He retreated back to his van and his wife finished the so-called “consultation” by telling me it would be $289. I was desperate for the prescription for antibiotics and paid this ridiculous price but please know, this man could care less about taking care of a hurt dog. I contacted them directly about the experience and was ignored. I don’t know why this man is in the business of caring for animals because he obviously doesn’t.

I have never used a mobile vet before so I did not know what to expect when I booked a wellness appointment for my cat. Within the first minutes of my cat's exam, I was impressed by Dr Nieman's ability to touch my spicy cat (the last vet could not lay one finger on him) and I had a lot of anxiety about the appt because my cat had lost some weight recently and the Dr and his assistant made me feel very comfortable very quickly and they did a very thorough job of examining my cat and giving him his needed shots/ labs/ tests. I really felt good afterwards knowing that my cat was in good hands and that I can rely on Dr Nieman for future visits!

I had a great first experience with Dr Nieman and Neighborhood Vets. I was able to get my cats and dog their annual check-up, vaccinations, and meds for heartworm prevention, etc all in one visit from the mobile vet, and it was less stressful for my cats than going to a vet office for the same type of appointment. Dr. Neman took time and good care with each pet, calming them down, with a thorough examination, and he discussed their health care with me at length.

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Larry and the quality of personal service he provides. He's been excellent for the care and treatment of our three Springer Spaniels and cat. As a business owner with a unpredictable schedule, it's incredibly convenient to have him come to our home and more comfortable for the dogs as well. I highly recommend him!

I absolutely love neighborhood vet mobile care! Dr. Nieman and Joan are amazing! I first contacted them when it was time for my senior dog, Brazy, to cross the rainbow bridge. They were professional, loving and caring! My other fur baby, Sophie, is now one of their patients. I love that they come to my home to care for Sophie. It's less stressful on the pets. Prices are very reasonable, in fact less than my previous vet. I wish I would have found them a long time ago!
