How to Save Money at Petcare Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Great staff with a very knowledgeable Doctor. Everyone here cares about the well-being of pets. We have had taken many pets here and all were treated kindly and with respect. So glad to have this clinic. You can tell they all love animals

We have had several procedures and visits at Petcare including a surgical procedure for one of our animals. I feel like every time we went, there was something just off, whether a rude staff member, a charge that seemed excessive, or otherwise. But I felt like I just always kept justifying that is was ok because other things (mostly the care) were good. Eventually, after not being able to get my dog in within a time frame that I felt was appropriate, I just decided to try another vet and see how it was. Fast forward some time now and recently my dog that had surgery there experienced an injury that requires some medical attention with possibly procedures, so I thought I would give them a try because they are familiar with him from a surgery standpoint. The appointment is going to be several days out at least and before scheduling a picture was requested. Ok, fine. But then they also let me know that I could not be present for the exam. I find it odd that an owner cannot be in the room during a basic, non-sterile, exam. My dog definitely feels a different level of comfort when I am there. I would never leave the room for my child to be examined without me. I am my animals advocate. Further discussion, we determined he may need to be sedated for the exam, for that I would understand and understand why I may not be permitted in the areas where sedation would be necessary. Overall, I would not recommend this vet. If you take your animal, will they receive adequate care? most likely, but it comes with quite a financial cost, some sketchy practices, and a long wait time for the appointment. I think there are probably just better options in the surrounding community.

Never take your pets here. If your pet is getting surgery there will always be a complication. Then if you call to ask questions and the front desk lady is having a bad day then you'll get yelled at and told to go to another vet. I just want to help my dog 🐕 💯 😪

If I could give no stars I would. I brought my dog in for a dental exam because her teeth are rotting. I was quoted 770$ for the dental cleaning and 5 level one extractions. I was told the vet had looked into her mouth and didn’t think she would need extractions but if any it would be 1-5 level ones. I took her in for her surgery this morning and they called me saying she had 6 level 3 extractions and it was going to cost me $1000 more that what I’ve already paid. At this point I’m questioning them because how could they not see her teeth were bad when looking in her mouth at the exam but I can clearly see them. The technician hung up on me when I called back they told me I was rude and they would be waking my dog up to come pick up and find another vet. All because I asked questions. How do you quote one thing and then call when my dog is already under anesthesia and tell me it’s going to be more then tell me to go somewhere else because I asked question??? This place is highly unprofessional and I wouldn’t recommend it.

My dogs have been patients of Dr.Moudy’s since puppyhood. She has seen them for both regular preventative care and emergencies. She went above and beyond to take care of Elvis during an obstruction scare, going in to check on him in the middle of the night twice. Her technicians are all very friendly and thorough. Kelley that works the front desk is very helpful for work in appointments. Thanks to everyone for the great care! Prices are very reasonable and upfront. I highly recommend!!!
