How to Save Money at Emergency Veterinary Care Centers
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

On September 11, 2023, we had to take our beloved Kane to the emergency vet because he was not acting normal. I called the clinic to find out what time they closed and if we need an appointment. I was told they were closing at five today. I arrived at 4 PM with Kane in tow and was told by one of the staff that they were closing in an hour and we’re not sure if they could see Kane or not. Shortly after that a vet tech came out and took Kane back because they wanted to make sure he did not have a blockage somewhere. After completing the paperwork and while they were working on Kane, I was placed into a exam room. Shortly after that, a veterinarian came in and told me that they needed to do bloodwork and an x-ray. After signing the waiver forms and giving permission to do the Test, my wife arrived. I started to notice that the attitude with staff was changing, seeming to become more steady and working harder. What seemed like forever, the veterinarian came in and gave us, our worst nightmares. Kane had severe liver failure and we had one of two options. The first option would not have given him a good quality of life. The other option was to have Kane put down. We decided to have Kane put down and with the staff there with us, it was one of the most beautiful and calming things I’ve ever gone through. The staff gave us as much time as we need to be with Kane and we finally left around 8pm. I just want to thank all the staff for their help and sympathy and caring with Kane during this extremely difficult time. Thank you. . Steve Goen

The staff was extremely friendly and I happened to go at a time that had no wait. It's wonderful that this place is here, as when there was only one ER vet, it really did impact wait times. This business has lightened the load of one facility, providing the ability to see animals more timely. The quality of care my dog received was second to none and everyone was very respectful and upfront about the diagnosis and costs. Of course I want my baby taken care of, but professional yet personable delivery from staff is extremely important as either one could make or break the experience. I am grateful that my dog was tended to and that he continues to improve.

THE ABSOLUTE WORST quality of care you could ask for you and your pet. I was here with my dog on 9/22/23. She had a bad skin rash and we checked in a 6 pm. The lady at the front desk could not give me a ballpark time that we could be waiting which is understandable due to pets in more critical conditions than mine. We waited 7 HOURS to be seen for this rash. When we were asked to go back in a room it took 30 minutes for a vet to come in and then another hour just for them to quote me on the price for the procedure. When I simply asked how much longer it would take for them to clean her skin and get me an antibiotic, the vet tech went to go complain to her floor manager about my “attitude”. Nick who was the floor manager on shift that night should quite simply be fired. He gave me so much attitude and wanted to argue with me about me asking for information about the wait time.He asked us to leave and refused to treat my dog. After almost 8 hours of waiting I walked out with nothing done for my dog and a huge headache. This place does not care about healing animals. They just want you to shut up and wait hours so they can take your money and give you the poorest quality of care you can find.

I was so worried about my puppy. The staff was absolutely wonderful. Their knowledge and communication with me was the best I have ever experienced. Today my pup is well on his way to recovery and it is because of the most excellent care he received.
