How to Save Money at All Wild Things Exotic Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have chinchillas. I LOVE all wild things. They are always super helpful with advising on what to do or not to do with whatever the condition the chinchilla is in. They are super friendly and show they care for your baby as you would. A downfall is they don't allow you in the building/exam room. I do NOT like this as I look at my fur babies like children and given my poor experience at previous vets I am uncomfortable not being present. The parking lot is horrid as well. It is extremely small and doesn't leave much room to navigate in especially if there is more than one other car in the lot at the same time you are. The entrance/exit is sketchy and is tiny and crazily damaged. I used to take my fur babies to avian exotics due to it being the exotic vet closest to my home. I lost two chinchillas at that clinic due to misdiagnosis and negligence. Oh, they also mis gendered a fully grown chinchilla which is a hard thing to do. LOVE ALL WILD THINGS! your babies will definitely be in the best hands here.

The best vet experience I have had. The first time I went was for an emergent issue, and they were able to get my rabbit in on a Saturday morning the same day. I credit them with saving her life. It required a procedure with anesthesia and observation for two days, and I was honestly shocked by the bill they presented me with as I was expecting it to be 3x higher. They have been incredibly helpful and knowledgeable every time I have brought her. They can have poor communication (a few times I haven't received phone calls when they said they would), but I believe it is because they are sometimes short-staffed and prioritize animal care over everything else, so I am OK with that. I would rather have a vet who uses their time to squeeze in an urgent visit than a vet who immediately calls me to tell me that everything is fine.

They are amazing. I have been using All Wild Things for my Hedgehogs for about 4 years. They are always helpful, caring and have great advice about nutrition as well as care. I don’t know what I would do without them!

Throughout my experience (months) with Dr. Brightwiser, she has S-A-V-E-D my Green Cheek Conure, Kiwi, both directly and indirectly thanks to her time, dedication, compassion, and MOST VALUABLY instruction (verbally and physically). She is the BEST exotic vet in Indianapolis and you will NOT find someone more compassionate and truly caring for your pet. She's honest with NO sugar coating or BSing, she'll work with you, and she goes above and beyond to do everything in her power to figure out what is wrong with your precious baby before putting your file away. She really cares. Her prices are so low you can just tell that she is NOT in this for the money and she comes in on short notice and is there for so long you can tell this is truly her passion in life. I can NOT say enough good things about Dr. Brightwiser and I am so very grateful for everything she has done for me and my flock. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your time and care! I highly recommend Dr. Brightwiser especially for critical emergency care.
