How to Save Money at Southwest Veterinary Urgent Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Called them with my dog issue and they got me in and out of there in less than an hour! What a clean, sharp establishment. They offer complimentary snack and drinks upon filling out the info sheet. Very caring, attentive staff. My and my dog were happy to have found this place.

Our cat had a urinary issue which warranted a trip to the ER vet. To say that I was anxious and dreading it is an understatement. I was pleasantly surprised when I could book my appointment online. We arrived plenty early and were taken back upon arrival. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed from the time I walked in the door. The reception area is clean and neat. The treatment rooms are filled with colorful paintings. The tech came in and asked us about our cats situation. She asked all of the right questions and got a thorough back story for the vet. She then took her and got vitals and urine sample. The vet then came in and spoke with us at length about our cats condition. He was very knowledgeable and answered all questions. I had complete confidence in his and the staffs capabilities and credentials. They were kind and caring every step of the way, from the receptionist at the front desk all the way until we walked out. They did exactly what our vet would have done and the cost was similar to a normal vet visit. I feel that the price for the services rendered was fair. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back if need be. I also liked how they had a candle on the counter stating that “if the candle is lit then someone had lost their pet. So please speak quietly.” I thought that was such a nice gesture. Also the paintings in the rooms are for sale. I’m assuming they are by local artists. They also have pics of pups up for adoption. I really liked that as well. They also promote local small businesses by having cards for local pet sitters. I feel that this is a welcome and necessary change to the local ER vet services. I can’t thank them enough for making this facility available to those of us that need it.

This place is amazing! We recently had to put our 17 year old dog down there and the whole process was very smooth. All of the staff were very professional and sympathetic. They were very accommodating and allowed us to have as much time as we needed before and after with our dog. We were even able to have a memorial paw print made, which was ready for me to pick up a few days later. A week after our dog had passed, we received a hand written sympathy card from their whole staff. That was such a kind gesture and meant a lot to our family. You can tell this clinic truly cares about animals and knows what a huge part of the family they are.

I highly recommend this clinic when in need of urgent care with your animals. They are kind and quick. The clinic is clean and well kept. They are clear with their recommendations, but not pushy. Our last visit was a sad. They were caring and gave us all the time we needed with our pup before saying goodbye. We were told very clearly what to expect, and they made the entire situation as easy as they could for a grieving family.

These people are over here doing the lords work! My dog had an allergic reaction to a change to a different dog food that caused her left eyelids and eyes to puff up. I tried the compress, terramycin, and started her on loratadine 10mg twice a day. She wouldn't stop pawing at it, which made it worse, and it ended up swelling shut. I called my vet, but they were booked up for over a week. My doggo couldn't see out of one eye, so I thought it's best to take her now. I went in on a Friday at 4:30pm, signed in on the iPad, and got directed right in to an exam room with no wait. They took my dog to the back, and did a flourescene stain (which came up positive for a scratched cornea). They took a blood sample from her, and spun it down to get the plasma to make serum eye drops for her (very cool science behind it!). They gave me antibiotic eye drops, Serum eye drops, carprofen (dog safe NSAID), another pill antibiotic, and an Ecollar. Whole bill? $265. That is a very reasonable price for an after hours emergency clinic. Thanks guys, keep up the great work! Before and after (7 hours after appointment), much better!
