How to Save Money at VCA Advanced Veterinary Care Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am the owner of Pet Fetch, the Ride for Pets. I had the pleasure of working with your team yesterday to coordinate transportation for Disney. The parents were very impressed with the process, as well as how well the doctors communicated with me to keep them informed. The staff remained extremely patient and friendly even during an evening rush! It was such a pleasure working with you all! Thank you so much for everything!

We are so thankful for the wonderful staff here! Our sweet baby had a crazy Thanksgiving morning and they took such great care of him! They truly treated him like family and made us feel very welcomed. I would recommend this vet to anyone and everyone looking for genuine people!

Jolly Holiday with Mary

We cannot say enough great things about this facility. Our first visit was in 2016 when our 12 week old puppy jumped off the couch and broke his leg. The nurses here really made the whole experience as good as it could be. They were so sweet. And since then that same pup has been back for a coupls mast cell tumor removals and other things. We’ve also brought our little girl pup who usually just have tummy issues and they take great care of her too. This place is just wonderful. I highly recommend getting your pets insurance — we have Trupanion and VCA works directly with them to get the most out of our coverage. They are the dream team!!

If there were such a thing as negative starts that’s what they would receive. This place is vile and I do not have a single nice thing to say about them. I brought my sweet angel in after he had been back and forth from the vet all week. It was a battle trying to diagnose him. He had normal blood work and normal X-rays so it was so unusual. One night he took a turn for the worst I came here looking for someone, anyone to make my dog feel better. We get there and waited for hours and hours with no update on how he’s doing or what they are doing for him. The first person we even talked to was the vet tech bringing us a $2,500 bill that she asked me to sign for blood work and an X-ray. The vet comes in and with a cold blooded answer just tells me that my dogs blood work is horrific and I have 2 choices. The first choice being that they keep him for the night where I am looking at a $10,000 bill and they keep him until he is better where I am looking at close to $30,000 but he still has a 50/50 chance of survival. My next choice was to just put him down. As I am sitting there hysterical questioning how his blood work could change in less than 48 hours and her response was equally as cold and she said “that’s just how it goes sometimes” I have never been more disgusted with a vet clinic. This is nothing but a money hungry place that does not care about how you feel or your animals. They are just taking advantage of vulnerable people just trying to get their fur babies better. Unfortunately I ended up loosing my soul dog. It’s hard enough and heartbreaking enough to go through loosing a fur baby or when they are sick. It just makes it that much worse when you deal with such a sickening place. Take your fur babies somewhere else. I know I will never recommend or step food in this place ever again.

thank you so much to the night shift staff on 1/14/25. you gave my dog a proper and dignified goodbye. she was a very big girl (great dane over 150) and the crew came out and was very gentle and sweet with my girl. thank you all so incredibly much for your grace and professionalism. i couldn't imagine what i would've had to do if we didn't have places like this open for people with pet issues in the middle of the night. if i could rate you guys 6 stars i would.
