How to Save Money at Advent Veterinary Services (Dr. Vivian Ramos - Dr. Thomas Kilbane)
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Took my Standard Rex, Mjölnir, in due to he was sneezing and coughing a lot more than normal. Dr. Kilbane took a look at him in-between other scheduled appointments and took immense care of Mjölnir's frail state. Dr. Kilbane then told me that Mjölnir had something called the "snuffles." (Rabbit pneumonia). Kilbane had to put Mjölnir in some type of breathing chamber for a few minutes, but after a few rounds of that, Mjölnir was breathing a lot better. Mjölnir was given extra medications and a bag of liquid hay. After about 2 months of steady recovery, Mjölnir is back to chilling and hopping around the house with his other rabbit kin. 😎😍

A pet is a family member. Maybe the fact that my wife and I both work as healthcare providers makes me hold a vet clinic to a higher standard. We had a hedgehog with a terminal neurological disorder, which worsened to the point he wasn’t eating or drinking. He was in misery. We called multiple offices and they all referred us to this clinic. We were told by staff at this clinic that the vet feels “uncomfortable” with the situation. All we wanted was for someone to make our pet comfortable in his last hours of life. He refused to even evaluate our pet. No compassion. We were told to go to Louisville or Illinois. Our beloved hedgehog never survived the trip. We watched him slowly choke to death on his secretions. I will never bring my future pets to a place where the vet is so heartless.

My pet is not a patient of this place, but I called for an emergency to be looked at. I was desperate for her to be seen. They turned my cat down because they thought she might have to have a over night stay. Without seeing her or nothing, the vet with no heart would not see her. 💔 all she needed was some anti nausea meds to hold her over till Monday and maybe some antibiotics until I was able to get her to see her vet. I would not recommend any pets to this place. Money was no object. How dare you. 😤 all I needed was you to see my baby. Please no need to respond back I will never call again.

I was referred to Dr. Kilbane's clinic from a family member who utilizes their services. Teeth cleaning and nail clipping for their furbabies. My dog is a rescue dog. Baxter has suffered neglect and abuse from his previous owner. He has very high anxiety and isn't friendly with other animals. Baxter has been under Dr. Kilbane's care for over a year now. With two teeth cleanings under Baxters belt, Dr. Kilbane and his techs have been so kind in caring for all the things that Baxter will not allow a groomer or me to do. As pet owners, we all know it's the paws and nails our animals don't like to have done by us. Instead of putting up the good old fight, we take them to a groomer to clip and dremel their nails. It's not just the nails, ear cleaning, cutting all the fur out of his paws, cleaning his eye area, and the list goes on that his techs provide while Baxter is under ananesthesia. They get the job done as quickly as possible so their not under long. Their compassion when they speak with you before taking your baby back. They treat your pet as your family member. They ask if you have questions. They communicate and explain in detail. Dr. Kilbane calls you personally a few days after your pets visit. In my case, two days at the most is what it has been before checking on Baxter. I have never felt rushed off of the phone by Dr Kilbane, and he truly listens to you. He gives you the tools that you need in order to nurse or make your pet as comfortable as possible while their healing. I hope he doesn't retire anytime soon. Thank you for being an AMAZING veterinarian. His clinc hours are flexible, and rates are reasonable. Give him a try. You would not be disappointed with his services.

If you’re looking for a cold, clinical, “treated like a number” experience… Advent won’t be for you! : ) Dr. Ramos is boisterous, hilarious, and genuinely loves interacting with your pets. She is one of a kind, in the best way! You’ll never feel like a burden asking an extra question or calling to set something up. Nearly every staff member I’ve encountered is extremely friendly and helpful. Karolyn especially is always so upbeat and kind. Their prices are comparable to most full service clinics and they have hours you can’t beat. They will text with you, rather than calling, which can be super convenient if you need to verify something in the middle of a work day. Highly recommend!
