How to Save Money at Diamond H Veterinary Service LLC
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Kristen Hicks is an absolute godsend! 2 years ago my husband and I discovered a little black kitten on one of our walks around town late at night and brought him home. Little did we know that this ball of sunshine would bring with him some sickness that passed along to my two other boys in the week that followed. Now Ciel, the black kitten was not sick himself, but Ion my Himalayan and Radu my Siamese had some sort if eye conjunctivitis that made it hard for them to see, eat, and sleep. I went to two other vets, one in Danville, IL and what used to be my regular vet in Clinton, IN and the medications they put my boys on did absolutely nothing. For over a month and $1200 later nothing changed and I was beginning to lose hope. I thought for sure I was going to lose the both of them until I discovered Diamond H and read about Dr. Kristin Hicks and her practice. You see I had taken my boys to a vet that specializes specifically with felines and even she couldn't cure them of their ailments. After one visit with Dr. Hicks and a couple of shots, within two days it had cleared up and by the end of the week they were back to their normal selves. She saved their lives and I thank her for it everytime I look into their eyes. I trust her with their care and I highly recommend you give her a chance. She's also more reasonably priced than the surrounding vets and the quality of service you get is unmatched. I just moved back from New York and I will be bringing my boys back to her again. Thank you so much Dr. Hicks and your amazing staff. You not only have a lovely office which is beautifully decorated and crafted but it smells absolutely wonderful in there despite all the animals that come in and out!

I absolutely love this place! They did emergency surgery on my dog because she almost died. All because another vet said she was fine. They made sure she and i were comfortable .

I was not impressed by the hospitality of this vet. We had never been there and decided to try it with our new kitten although we live on a farm and had already had a vet for them. This vet was closer and we were told cheaper. We walked in the first day and were completely ignored the first 10 minutes we were there. We almost left because we kept seeing people and no one acknowledged us. They seemed annoyed by our being there. Once we were in the room an emergency of some sort must have come up because we waited for almost an hour with no chairs in the room but One stool to sit on. The techs and vet were all business. They didn’t tell me what they were doing to my kitten, they didn’t tell me what would be needed in the future, and they freaked out that he had a few fleas still. We had been treating him for a week and only had a couple on him. We had an expensive collar for it on him. He was covered unknown to us when we got him, and had had him only two weeks. They didn’t even ask, they just assumed that the collar was not working and made us pay for flea treatment and take the collar off. They seemed like they know what they are doing, but they made me feel uncomfortable all three visits so far. The front desk was also the same all three visits as well. The place is nice and smells of candles when you walk in, but they just don’t seem very friendly. I also didn’t see much difference in the cost from the vet we had already had. Now that my kitten has had all his boosters I plan to change his vet.

Kristen Hicks is always right there either answering the phone or replying by text and is always ready with advice or working around our schedule to make an appointment. Her fees are very reasonable. She is enthusiastic about the services she provides her customers and is GREAT with the horses! So glad she is so close and her place is easy to access. Her newest assistant, Hagen, is wonderful, too.

Not impressed, got my fur baby fixed and she got an infection. She doesn't lick or mess with the stitches at all so I was worried. No comfort there and on top of paying for meds they were supposed to send home in the first place I had to take her in so they could see for themselves and they charged me.
