How to Save Money at Above & Beyond Animal Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’ve been taking my two cats here for 2 years and it has been an amazing experience every single time. The staff truly loves them as much as we do, and they always get the best care when they come here. Dr. Kaneck is a fantastic veterinarian, the staff is very patient and knowledgeable, and will always take the time to clarify and answers any questions you throw their way. I love taking them here, and highly recommend them if you’re looking for a vet in the Avon area!

Have used Above and Beyond since becoming a dog owner 6 years ago and have had no issues. Recently had my dog’s teeth cleaned. While it was not cheap, I haven’t been able to find anywhere else that could quote less (most were more). I don’t think their prices are exorbitant - I just think you need to be prepared to pay for what your pet needs when you become an owner. They are still doing curbside service which I like. Always call to remind about visits or check in throughout the year to see if I’m running low on revolution. All the staff are friendly and I appreciate their communication. We’ve moved from speedway to zionsville in the last year and I have continued using them due to their care. Would recommend to anyone looking for a reliable veterinarian.

Originally a few days ago I had written a nice review about how the service I received here was great(Jenna in particular) but sadly I’m now changing that review based on the treatment I received yesterday. My cat seems to have an upper respiratory infection and they recommend a PCR panel that would help determine exactly what was causing the infection which would help determine treatment. I’m all for that except it’s 400$. So of course the natural thing to do is to see if I can find the test cheaper at another vet. I finally found a new vet, scheduled an appointment then called above and beyond to let them know a new vet will be calling to get records and information about my cat. I did this with good intention to give them a heads up as to why I was going to another vet, but then I regretted it after talking to the receptionist. This woman NEVER says her name when answering and I have a feeling it’s bc she doesn’t want people to know that way she can’t be mentioned in bad reviews. There’s plenty of reviews on here talking about how rude she has been to people, so even without a name, people know who she is. She was awfully rude to me on the phone and i feel like I shouldn’t get attitude for trying to find the test at a cheaper price. 400$ may not be a lot of money to her but it sure is to me. The above and beyond lady left me a voicemail saying she was sending over the records right then, which was great. But then the new vet called and told me she hadn’t been sent the records yet and would call above and beyond to make sure they got sent but when she called she was berated by that woman on the phone too! The woman from the new vet called me and told me the above and beyond woman told her that since my cats appointment wasn’t till Thursday there wasn’t a rush in sending over the records! Having a busy day is not an excuse to treat people badly. You don’t gain business by berating people on the phone looking for help, that’s how you lose it. I genuinely liked this place at first and I honestly just wanted to get this test at another vet then continue my cats care with above and beyond but after that phone call I won’t be returning. Jenna and everyone else who works there is amazing tho, it’s unfortunate that the woman who answers the phones and represents the clinic isn’t kind.

We have been taking our animals here for 20+ years (for us, that's a lot of animals over the years). The staff here is wonderful and truly care for each animal they see. As of now, they still are not allowing people into the building for appointments, but they make it work.

⚠️ they abuse innocent dogs like mines. The Vet performed a procedure on her without my consent. I said no and they did it anyway she has not being the same since. My dog was traumatized. When asked They refused to give me an explanation. AVOID this company. Don’t let ur dog be another abused victim. The lady who was there was disrespectful, she is a Karen yelling at everyone. ⚠️
