How to Save Money at VCA Animal Hospitals Urgent Care - Wheaton
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

After having a less than stellar experience trying to get treatment at my vet over a holiday weekend, the team at VCA really exceeded my expectations! The staff was super welcoming upon our arrival after making it off the waitlist (conveniently we could wait at home until they were ready for us). We were immediately taken to an exam room (personalized for her arrival!), and quickly seen by a vet, treatment plan explained, and cost outlined. The staff offered me refreshments/ snacks while waiting on my dog’s procedure & regularly checked in with me. Everyone was very pleasant and the facility was clean, new & modern. I’ve already recommended to friends & family after leaving today, and will definitely come back should we experience another health concern with our pets.

Unfortunately, I’ve had to bring my handsome boy to this facility twice since I brought him home from the shelter. FORTUNATELY, this urgent care is exceptional. Incredibly helpful and friendly. I’m starting to suspect Gus is getting skin infections purposefully so that we can go back. They treat him like a prince and he loves every minute, even when he’s feeling crappy. Rose was amazing at our last visit. Thank you all for being an incredible support in times of need!

When you realize you need an antibiotic for your pet after regular business hours and youre catching an early flight the next morning, panic strikes. I called the local Emergency Vet where there was a 3-hour wait for non-critical pets. I had no choice but to wait! Alas, a friend told me of the new VCA Urgent Care in Wheaton that just opened. Went to their website, confirmed they were open until 8pm, completed an entry into an amazing virtual waiting room that allowed me to stay at home until I got a text that they were near ready for our arrival. Got the text, hopped in the car and headed to Wheaton. When I get there an exam room had already been waiting for us, by name, and we were quickly accommodated by an awesome Care Coordinator, Samantha. She took all our specifics and then Dr. Mozwecz came in the room and met my fur baby. Took her in the back for a skin impression, came back within 10minutes with a diagnosis and meds. I was impressed!! While I waited there was a lovely drink and snack area. Everyone was super nice and their use of technology created a fast and easy check out right in the exam room. Great facility, awesome team and I would definitely recommend for those tough moments in between regular vet and emergency. Saved me 3 hours!

Excellent across the board...in Everything! Took my 4 year old kitty in last night because she had been throwing up for a couple days. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by a very friendly staff member. In the patient room, my kitty's first interaction was with the Care Concierge, Rose. She was super patient, very personable, and very afffectionate with my Bella. My kitty was seen by Dr. Meals who was awesome; my daughter was on the phone during the appointment and later told me "I really liked that doctor!" Dr. Meals was empathetic and told Bella she was sorry that she was not feeling well. She was very empathetic toward me, as well, as she could tell how upset I was. She listened and was very compassionate. She also explained things thoroughly and answered every question I had. When your pet is sick, having staff who truly cares matters 100% and I felt this at VCA Urgent Care (Wheaton). Thank you Dr. Meals and Rose for everything! Bella thanks you as well.
