How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital Skokie
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Bringing your dog to the emergency vet is always stressful. My dog ate half a brick of rat poison he grabbed in the alley (thanks, neighbors!) while he went with me to take our garbage out. This was a very serious situation, and I was obviously quite scared. Because we didn't know which of the 3 types of poison he had eaten, we had to treat him for every scenario. He was seen immediately. The vets were calm and compassionate. They explained exactly what they needed to do and how much it would cost. His treatments and observation lasted over 5 hours. They came in to give me regular updates. My dog has a fear of vets, but they were able to handle him competently and to even enjoy his quirky personality. They gave me clear instructions for his follow up treatments and told me exactly what to watch for when I took him home. They absolutely saved his life. I am so grateful to have them available. I hope i never experience another emergency ( this was the first one in 6 years), but if I do, I would not hesitate to return.

The only negative thing was the initial wait time, over an hour. However, being the only emergency care that was open. The staff and the Vet doctor were great! Everything was explained about the exam and steps recommended. Very caring and compassionate. Everyone was professional and polite. My 3 month old puppy had intestinal problems. The meds worked quickly. Also, the recommended diet was extremely helpful. Great staff and Vet!

Thorough and friendly staff. My dachshund was in pain and they offered him exactly what he needed. They put my doubts at ease. My only concern and perhaps I don't understand the liabilities of the facility or in general, but I wish they checked my dogs vitals and did the examination in front of me instead of in the back. I understand their equipment is back there and they are an ER but I wish I saw the exam. Anyways, the facility itself was amazing. My experience truly was smooth, immediate, and all of my questions were answered. Better relations than my regular vet!! Thank you!! 10/10

The price of the service was not explained to me correctly when I brought my dog in for care. It cost me an additional $500+ for services that were not disclosed properly. All the employee could say to me was she was sorry for not explaining it correctly. I completely understand we are human and mistakes happen, but a $500 difference in charges is a big mistake that I had to pay for because it wasn’t explained correctly. Four days later and I’m still waiting for the office manager to call me about the matter. I won’t be taking my dog to this location again. This is not how good business is done.

Staff is very kind and helpful. When my anxious and reactive puppy was so desperate to run out the front door that I couldn't fill out the intake form, they put us in an exam room. They brought us a price estimate after vet did her initial evaluation, and gave us choices. Appreciate their kindness and gentleness with a nervous dog. We went on Sunday afternoon and grateful to have a place like this that takes care of your pet when regular vet is closed
