How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Will sadly be leaving this vet for another because im moving:( Here's the deal they are busy very busy. I initially put 4 stars but after several visits if you can be understanding that they try to keep up with patients but can get overwhelm then they are a fit. The front staff literally did all they could for me from phone calls to in person all of them deserve a raise. The girls kill front desk. The doctor was lovely but again is just very busy. If you are looking to get in exactly at your time with 0 patience for a wait go elsewhere but if you can wait the occasional 5 to 15 minutes they take amazing care of the animals and actually care. Unlike most vets I never felt like they were money hungry and just wanted to look after my pet. I say 10/10 for the price compared to expensive 100 dollar appointment vets before even being looked at.

I’ve been coming to this location for the Last 5-6 years, due to Covid they think it’s okay to see your sick dog 3-4 weeks when you call. The doctor herself has no idea what she’s doing, an wants to run test after test just to make you spend money. She quoted me 3,000$ up to 4,000$ to pull 4-6 teeth from my small 7 pound dog. An she tried to make herself sound very smart as if that was a great price. I found another smaller place willing to do everything for 295$, yes read that again 295$.Banefield is nothing more then a greedy corporate company who wants to make money off your pet. Please find yourself a smaller vet where the doctor will always remain an you have a connection with them. Remember, your dog is nothing more then a # to them. My dog has now passed, an I wish after 10 years I would’ve went somewhere else I know my dog would be alive now.

As nice as they were, my poor cat was there for 9 hours. I dropped her off at 8:30am, and I don’t think she was seen until at least 6 hours later. Plus, when I arrived, there were about 5 people in line already. We had to wait over half an hour just for a drop-off appointment. Why schedule all these animals at the same time, and let them sit in their carriers all day waiting to be seen. The drop-off time should’ve been later so she wouldn’t be there all day. I’m not going to this location again.

First of all, I want to clarify that I told the receptionist that if dental cleaning procedure was dangerous or painful for my dog, I did not want it.. took my little dog (chihuahua) for a dental cleaning and Dr Leigh and Amber Specht removed 9 teeth without my authorization. I went to talked to them at Banfield pet hospital and nobody wanted to take the responsibility for waht they did. I told not to do any type of teeth removal procedure with out my permission. They did not care about it. They are so unprofessional, When I went to talk to them, one of the members rejected giving me the names of the responsables (doctors), therefore I asked the receptionist until she finally ended up giving me these two names "Dr. Leigh and Amber Specht" They hurt him so much, three legs were on pain. He couldn't even walk. I can't imagine how much my little dog was suffering on these unprofessional hands.
