How to Save Money at Hometown Veterinary Partners Schaumburg
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I couldn't be happier... we are new to Knollwood Hospital and I'm so glad that I brought my Ruby here... she's skittish and apprehensive (she's a rescue) so it was really important to me to find a Vet who had a nurturing demeanor. I was so impressed with the patience, care, and concern of the staff. I'm very happy and thankfully, Ruby is doing so much better. Thank you, Knollwood!!!! You have a new fan

If you're looking for a veterinarian who truly cares about your pet's well-being and takes the time to address your concerns, Dr. M is the best choice. Her practice is top-notch and her staff is highly trained and professional. I highly recommend Dr. M and her team!

I have been going to Knollwood for years. The staff is great and the care could not be better. I have always found their prices reasonable and have appreciated Dr. Mitchell's conscientiousness about saving me money. Her blend of Western and holistic medicine has been so helpful for my pets as they age (I have had 2 rabbits with arthritis). She is always current on the latest research and is able to enumerate the pros and cons of treatment options so that we can choose the best option both for my pet and my wallet. In addition she and her staff are kind and compassionate to animals and owners. It sounds like the negative reviews are basing them on one experience. I have had 6 years of frequent visits and nothing but good experiences. I cannot imagine a better veterinary hospital.

We have loved this location. Dr. Mitchell is amazing. She is so kind and sincere each visit. Unfortunately making this review because this was the second time we had an issue with the nurse, Michelle. The first time I brought my two cats in she was very rude and condescending. I brushed it off because of how much I liked the doctor. Today my husband had to bring in our one cat last minute. She was also very rude during this visit. No kindness or compassion. She was rude to him and talked to him like he was stupid BEFORE we asked if we could call in the morning and pay for our visit today. It’s a shame because everyone else in the office is super super pleasant.

Dr. Mitchell has taken care of both my dogs, each with an ongoing medical issue. I trust her implicitly. She always takes the time to explain treatment options and to give reasons for her recommendations. Even during COVID while the clinic changed to curbside appointments, her phone calls to this pet parents in the parking lot continue to exude her affection for my dog while providing full information and answering all my questions. For 20+ years, Dr. Mitchell has always provided excellent care to my fur-family. Her staff is outstanding: professional and caring.
