How to Save Money at Caton Crossing Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Our family, including our two dogs, love Caton Crossing Animal Hospital. The staff and veterinarians are incredibly caring and responsive to us and our dogs and are so friendly and professional. Our dogs are the nervous types yet manage to calm down pretty quickly under their care. I especially appreciated the time I needed to pick up my dog’s thyroid medicine but didn’t think I could get there on time before they closed. One of their staff volunteered to bring it to me because she lived close by. This is just how they are. Great place!

Leaving this review while it’s fresh. 1st appointment I walked in and there were 3 ladies at the desk. Not one of them spoke until I just started talking to someone trying to sign in. Once in the room, the nurse was fine but the doctor came and during the visit I noticed they didn’t know how to hold my dachshund. Long backs require a specific way of holding. They didnt do this. My dog was immediately uncomfortable so I let them know to support his back, to which the doctor said, “oh yeah, long back. How’s this?” Why didn’t you know this before? So that’s Strike 2. I scheduled a follow up appointment. Before that appointment they sent me a notice about him being scheduled for a surgical neuter. I’ve never discussed this with them so it was very disturbing to get. When I reached out asking for info they denied any involvement and said oh it’s just our call center. Strike 3. Take responsibility and recognize that this is a disturbing email to receive randomly. Strike 4 happened today. My appointment is in an hour. They cancelled because they called yesterday saying they didn’t have a file made for him but I missed the call. I brought him last time why does he not have a file? But they said we already gave your appointment away. Despite the fact it’s to check some concerning marks on him. Definitely will not be going back EVER. Rude on the phone, rude/dismissive in person, sending emails about doing surgery on my dog for no reason, and clearly can’t accurately keep files for my pup. Only giving two stars because the nurse was really great from the last visit. Hopefully others have a better exp. Not for us.

I’ve never met an unorganized and less caring vet staff in my life. I’ve had to call several times to get back information regarding my dogs. The staff states they will call back and they never do. I’ve given my number to this facility twice and they are stating they lost my number. How do you lose the same number twice? I’ve also put in several orders for meds online because the staff was too lazy to help me checkout with them in person. After they told me to put in the medication orders online, I did and what did they do? They decline the medications. The vet staff also knows my dogs are dog aggressive. Everytime we leave I always ask for them to make sure no dogs are outside nor in the lobby so I can safely get my dogs back to the car without a dog fight. Staff doesn’t even look and just tells me that we’re cleared for dogs. Soon as i step out of the room there’s an owner with their dog outside. Could have ended very badly.

We've been going here for roughly 20 years with 3 cats and 1 dog over that period. I appreciate the paw plan to space out the payments, and it keeps us on schedule with appointments. Both my cats and dog have had their teeth cleaned here as well. If a procedure is done, you will get the appropriate pain meds on site which is very convenient. There is also an option to order pet meds and have them shipped to my home, or buy at location. Everyone is kind and patient. We're very happy with this location.
