How to Save Money at Premier Veterinary Group - Orland Park

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’ve had to bring my senior cat here twice, both in emergency situations. Everyone here was so kind & compassionate. We were given a private room and were able to grieve and be with our boy as long as we wanted before and after the injection. They talked us through everything that what was going to happen & provided information for memorial decisions we could make later. I’m thankful for this team ❤️

I brought my dog in for a serious injury. She was immediately taken back. The front desk and veterinarians kind and explained everything to me. They took great care of her and called often with updates, explaining her condition and prognosis clearly to me. I made the choice that the humane decision was to put her down. Everyone was supportive and gave me as much time with her as I needed before the doctor came in and explained everything to me. It was respectful and peaceful for my dog. Thanks.

Overall I would probably give 3-4 stars due to the ridiculous cost of care at this clinic but they are an Emergency Vet so I get it..kind of. I never net the surgeon that was going to be operating on my cat and I didn't get to spend nearly as much time with him as I would have liked before surgery or when I came to visit. They get 5 stars though solely for Dr Pavlinac and the new anesthesiologist that came in for my cat's high risk surgery even though she wasn't supposed to even start working there yet. My cat unfortunately did not make it but I truly feel they did everything they possibly could to fix him. I hope to never need this clinic again but if Dr Pavlinac were a non-er vet I wouldn't go to anyone else.

They were very kind and patient with me when i brought my rescue cat in for breathing issues. It led to me having to euthanize her and i was devastated. The entire team kindly explained every step and gave me all the time I needed to say goodbye. They were very supportive in my darkest hour. I highly recommend them to care for your animals needs. My only issue was after I had gone home to process this event, I had questions I needed answers to. I called 2x asking the ER vet who treated her to please call me and he never did. When I went down there to pick up her ashes I again asked to speak with the vet. I was told that since i am a foster they will only talk to the shelter i foster for. That broke my heart because she was in my care for years and i needed to understand how this suddenly happened. The guilt eats me up daily because i blame myself and all I needed was a explanation to help me get closure. Now I have to live with the pain of not knowing if it was something I did, no closure.

I was told from my primary vet to get to the nearest hospital to me when I brought my cat in for being in pain and possibly a blockage. The first time going there the staff was very nice but communication lacks. They said he had a blockage and needed to proceed with a catheter and flush his bladder out. I took him home with no medication and was told to keep him separate from all my other cats and watch him. I watched him for a couple days and the symptoms began to show again. I brought him in at 5am and explained to the nurse who opened the door for us that he was recently here for so&so and she told me they’re gonna take him back to check it out. She proceeded to tell me my cat has a very small bladder which is making it hard for him to urinate and told me it was probably just a uti and was safe to go home. A couple days go by and my cat is in pain AGAIN. I brought him in and was there from 11:45-4pm. They took him back right away and never updated me with ANYTHING. They never told me they were gonna proceed with another catheter until it was time to pay. They wanted to hospitalize my cat for 1.8k or take him home for 600. After all these visits no X-ray was ever taken and I was never given a 100% answer on what my cat has or had. My cat was having discharge and in pain today and when I called in they kept transferring me to people who respectfully didn’t know what they’re doing. The women told me she was gonna call me back in a minute and it’s been 8 hours. I took my cat to a different hospital right after ending the phone call and that doctor told me that my cats bladder was clear and he does not have a small bladder whatsoever. He couldn’t exactly tell us what my cat had unless we gave him permission to proceed with a PU surgery but he said if my cat has no blood in his urine, is eating, playing, and letting urine out then there should be nothing wrong and what the doctor told me from this hospital was wrong. My cat has been inflamed from his back to back procedures and did not have crystals in his urine the second time around as the doctor told me he did at this hospital and proceeded to continue with the procedure WITHOUT INFORMING ME UNTIL PAYMENT. the staff up front is respectful but communication skills are HORRIBLE and I could agree with all other reviews that this place just wants to see you put your animals down. I don’t recommend coming here especially if you fear putting your animal down.
