How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Staff was very friendly and genuinely concerned about the welfare of my pet. They seemed to have done thorough exam and testing to diagnose my cat's condition. My only problem is the expense involved. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income and my husband just passed away suddenly with no life insurance. I asked about a senior discount or payment plan but was told none available My bill was $933 which is nearly 2 months of my Social Security income. Needless to say, I will not be coming in for follow-up, having to let nature take it's course while I aggressively continue to treat on my own (cat severely constipated). Fortunately, cat actually doing better with a combination of treatment rec'd at Blue Pearl and my own intensive care. So in order to afford the good care staff provides here, you'd better be currently employed at a well-paying job; unfortunately, this is not me.

Had to bring my sick cat here on a Sunday morning, when regular vet was closed. When we told the front desk intake person that her breathing was rapid, she was taken back immediately for treatment. The tech/aides we encountered were nice, and I really liked the vet. Dr. Horowitz was compassionate, yet honest about my cat's condition and prognosis. While she ultimately did not survive, I think that everything that could have been done for her was done. Yes, their services are expensive, but you are paying for more sophisticated testing and treatment and for the fact that there are very few 24-hour vet options in this area. I was satisfied with the attention and care given to my cat.

This is more so an update from another review I left for the BluePearl at Skokie. My cat was not eating and vomiting, and he was prescribed anti vomiting and anti diarrhea medication. The next two days he continued not to eat, and I called my personal vet and Bluepearl. I was advised to bring him in for more examination. After an ultrasound, it found my poor cat had swallowed a vertical foreign body (a string) and needed emergency surgery. I was absolutely devastated. Thankfully, the BluePearl surgeon team and vets were so incredibly kind and helpful. They laid out exactly what needed to be done, as well as all the possibilities and costs. I was scared but I just wanted my cat to be okay. While the surgery was expensive because it was an emergency vet, I had the upmost confidence in the team handling his procedure. (I highly recommend getting pet insurance if you don’t already have it). Everything went smooth and I could not have been happier. He was sent home 2 days later and the team said he was one of the sweetest animals they had in care and they will miss him. Everyone I interacted with was compassionate and knowledgeable. He’s been home a day now and he’s back to his normal self. I’m just really thankful for the services BluePearl provided and would recommend to others for emergency services. ***UPDATE - 10 days later and the recheck exam showed simbas vitals look completely normal and his wound his healing very well! no more cone for the goober !!! :D He is completely back to himself again. I also really appreciate that since it was just recheck, they did not charge me again. I had a great experience here and would recommend others giving it a chance if their pet is in need.

We noticed a lump on our dog’s throat and we took her to the BluePearl ER. She was sadly diagnosed with lymphoma, but they were able to diagnose her on that first visit saving valuable time. They also got her scheduled for an oncology appointment within a week with Dr. Boria. We began treatment immediately and Dr. Boria was able to get her cancer into remission. Our dog finished all her rounds of chemo with almost no side effects. We know it’s still a battle every day, but right now she is as happy as a lark with no signs of her disease. We have been given the gift of more time with the best dog we’ve ever owned. I highly recommend Blue Pearl for emergency and immediate care, as well as specialty care. Everyone who works there is very knowledgeable and professional.

We have used Blue Pearl several times over the past many years and used to have very positive experiences. This week however, my vet called them because our cat has a cancerous tumor that needs to be surgically removed asap. The surgeon said she wouldn't remove it without an oncology visit first however, they can't fit us in for a month. Well, in a month, our cat will have died. Unbelievable. We then went with Vet Speciality Center in Bannockburn and not only were they compassionate but they understood the situation and took us right away. What has happened to Blue Pearl? It is so disappointing, especially when you have a sick pet that is deeply loved. I would suggest staying away from Blue Pearl. There are other emergency clinics on the North Shore that are so much better.
