How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Such a great hospital! Celia was very attentive and kind when handling my dog Coco! Merrit was very friendly and compassionate with my needs. As well, Angelo was so easy to talk to when it came to medication and side-effects from the vaccines. I would recommend to anyone who wants the best treatment for their companion and or pet. I would also recommend to purchase the Vital Care Premier for free consultation!

The most unorganized and unprofessional vetco I’ve been to. If you have the option to take your pet anywhere else please do.They called around 10am to confirm my dog’s appointment however since I was working I was unable to pick up, they left me a voicemail asking me to confirm before 1pm that day so they wouldn’t cancel the appointment. I called them twice at 11am and they did not answer, so I thought I would call again during lunch. Right before my lunch I get a text at 12:38pm asking me to confirm through text so replied to confirm 5 mins after the text came through (before 1pm) . The next day I get to my 12:30pm appointment on time and see a sign saying they are closed for lunch everyday from 1pm-2pm, however when I talk to the front desk girl she says that the doctor had to leave for an emergency and she had tried calling me today to cancel and she left a voicemail , I tell her that I hadn’t received any phone call nor voicemail from Vetco today. She then says that I actually didn’t have an appointment because they called yesterday and I didn’t confirm…. Of course I tell her that I did and had the messages and calls to prove it, all she proceeds to say is “idk what happened there but either way the doctor is not here so she can’t get seen”. At no moment did she seem to care that they were wrong or WASTED MY TIME. I truly understand emergencies but the lack of organization and professionalism I can not. I can not bring myself to bring my dog here if it’s going to be a guessing game with her appointments. I set this appointment up because my dog hasn’t been feeling good and if they would have reached out to say they were canceling I would have found other arrangements for my dog. Pictures with proof of confirmation and times.

The doctor spoke to me over the phone like i was stupid and tried to blame my dogs symptoms on me not treating an ear infection. My dog was actually having an adverse reaction to the medication that this location administered to him. Which the doctor should be knowledgeable in because all of his symptoms were listed on the pamphlet of the medication! If you are giving a certain medication you should know the side effects it can cause. Furthermore the doctor never even bothered to speak to me directly and just printed out a paper explaining an ear infection to me. overall she was extremely unprofessional and i would never trust this location with my dog again.I ended up having to call the company of the medication given to my dog directly and their team of vets are now working with a different petco location to help my dog.
