How to Save Money at SmartVet
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I spoke with Aaron about a difficult decision regarding end of life for my beautiful princess. He was so genuine, caring, helpful and understanding. I'm a disabled USMC Vet with hearing complications. Aaron worked with me patiently. Answered all my questions & provided a $ quote for them to come to my home. His professionalism and representation of this particular Vet service was outstanding. I'm walking the difficult road of losing a benevolent, altruistic companion & they are genuinely helping. God bless U & thank U. Semper Fi

Smart Vet is probably the best veterinarian experiences I've ever had! This was my second time going. The first time was wonderful and for my little boy Comso. From the first call with Emily on the phone making his appointment to meeting with Dr. Adkins everything went so smoothly and wonderfully. I can truly tell they care and that means so much to me with Cosmo being 14 1/2 years old! This second time we were now doing dental care. He needed his dental cleaning and expected extractions, but what was unexpected for them was a small mass on his eye lid. They handled it so well! The nurse Anna (sorry if I got her name wrong) was so incredibly attentive and nice during checkin and informed me that Dr. Adkins would take a look and reach out during surgery and that's exactly what she did. We briefly went over everything that was happening and her opinion of the best way to proceed with my little old man and I felt confident in trusting her and I'm so glad I did!!! They ended up having the time to remove the small mass and do as much dental work that they could safely do all in one round of anesthesia, which I truly appreciate! With how old he is, I was very nervous of everything, but they have exceeded my expectations with his care. By this next morning he already is acting like his old self despite the cone on his head. Then, as I was laying there worried about him I got a call from Smart Vet checking in on him! Emily, the receptionist was truly amazing and even remembered us from weeks prior which was so wonderful! I was able to ask questions and she put my mind at ease. Additionally, she made sure that she set up for a follow-up call again tomorrow morning so I wouldn't have to worry if he was in pain again. Thank you Smart Vet. I truly appreciate all the help you given us! Cosmo is doing great and I just truly appreciate having such a loving vet for him to visit.

I just lost my oldest boy of 14 1/2 years on 12-23-24. All of their staff have been very supportive during our journey with his cancer, as well as being respectful of all of my decisions that came along with that diagnosis. I received a lovely card signed by many of them after his passing. They care for their patients like they are their own pets. I have recommended SmartVet to both family & friends.

I am so thankful for SmartVet. The staff was so compassionate during one of the hardest times of my life. Genuinely grateful for them and the way they were there for my family and I. I lost it when I got a card in the mail and it was signed with a super sweet note from each staff member involved. Thank you guys, from the bottom of my heart.

Really good office with everything you need. Recently, Aaron, Dr. Tabor and her vet tech assistant helped us w USDA certificate submission for our travel. They are efficient & high tech. Aaron texted us back & forth to identify our exact documentation needs, Dr. Tabor went into the USDA system to fix the form errors and texted me about the USDA approval. The most efficient & high-tech vet office I have worked with.
