How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot express the gratitude I am feeling from the support of the doctor and her staff. They provided a complete diagnostic of issues our cat was experiencing. They took the utmost care of our pet and contacted us frequently on our pet's prognosis. We will definitely recommend Banfield Pet Hospital for our friends' pets preventative and urgent care!

Terribly unprofessional. My husband called to schedule our dog in for an appointment, informed them over the phone that she had not been there and asked if we needed anything prior to the appointment for her to be treated. All they asked is if she had her rabies shot, which she does and has the tags for. They said they would be able to accept her with the tags. Got to our 930am appointment on a Saturday morning. She then informed me that they in fact could not accept her without the rabies papers 🚩 and wanted me to email them. My dogs usual vet is closed on Saturdays. Hence the reason we asked PRIOR to the appointment. Why say the tags are acceptable if they are not. My husband called them and told them this is not what he was told when scheduling, the girl on the phone told him to hold so she could ask the vet. He was on hold for 10 minutes, then the girl got on the phone n told him she'd call back in a few minutes with an answer. She also told him that if there's no call back, then they probably decided to just accept her. 🚩 AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER, still no call back, me waiting outside with my 3 year old for our dog to be finished, my husband calls to see what's going on. They answer and tell him that they can't accept her without paperwork. 🚩 Why the hell did you people make my dog sit in a kennel for an hour and a half knowing she wouldn't be accepted? 🚩Waste of time plain and simple. Completely unprofessional and being busy is no excuse. Pick up the damn phone n get her out of there then. Especially knowing the circumstances, I came in with my 76lb 7 month old puppy, my 3 year old son, visibly struggling. I informed her that I'm having a hard time cause I am ALSO 7 MONTHS PREGNANT. 🚩🚩🚩 Do not waste your time or money on these inconsiderate, unorganized, and unprofessional people.

If I would be able to leave 0 stars I would. This place has not been able to treat my 5 month old goldendoodle that has been having an ear infection for weeks! They throw all these extra charges and medications walking out every time paying almost 200+ ever since time while on the payment plan. I also expressed concern regarding spaying my goldendoodle at 5 months because she is not fully matured but they considered my puppy to be a small breed? I go looking into my app they have her listed as a mini poodle when she will be a full grown goldendoodle and my breeder and all other vets told me to wait between 7 months - 1 year. I don’t not trust this place as it’s been over 2 months that they cannot treat my puppy’s DOUBLE ear infection. Yes, goldendoodles are prone to ear infections but it’s been months and they cannot get it resolved at all. This place just cares about money and also they do everything in the back without you knowing if they really do treatment or not. If they do the so called treatment my puppy should be improving by now.

My pet was in dire need of help. They took xtrace. And then did nothing for him just giving pain pills. Way over priced over $400 just for that period God I hope I never have to go back there again. Never did find the reason he was so sick.
