How to Save Money at Premier Veterinary Group - Grayslake
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We took our sweet fur baby there after she wasn’t doing very well. They were very kind and compassionate and took a lot of time to help us and our baby feel comfortable. They assisted us and provided much needed support for a very difficult time and decision. We are so grateful for you being available and supportive as our dog went over the rainbow bridge. Your added services and care was so heartwarming and helped a heartbreaking loss a little bit easier. We were so happy to receive her ashes back in less than a week and have her back home. Thank you for the care and concern you and your staff show!

I feel I need to share mostly because Premier only has a 3.2 rating…. If I could give 6 stars I would….I KNEW it was time to say goodbye to my dog as he had been suffering for many months with heart related issues. I called to inquire about euthanasia, assuming they would try and talk me out of it. It was quite the contrary. They remained neutral but also supported how I felt and were beyond caring and compassionate, offering caring words through my tears and sadness. That is EXACTLY what I needed, someone that was going to be supportive and empathetic! We had a 5pm appointment to start the process but as I had known he was ready and passed at home around 3pm. I brought him in and they were just so caring, compassionate and supportive. They gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye and I could tell they truly cared.

I brought my dog in after he was attacked by another dog at daycare. He came in with 5 open bite wounds, 2 that were deep enough to require stitches. The third wound popped a cyst he had on his back. They were able to get him in immediately after I scheduled an appointment online (I live 45 minutes away). They were able clean the open bite on his cyst and provided excellent care. They allowed me to stay and work from one of their offices as the distance for me driving back and forth wasn’t conducive. They took care of him like he was one of their own. The staff provided me updates and reviewed aftercare instructions thoroughly. They were friendly and they showed that they care. The vet informed me that the cyst bite would remain open but covered as that’s what she would want for her own dog- to stitch it up after being bitten could increase the risk of infection. My boy came out and the staff walked with us to the car and helped lift him in the back seat. If I could rate this place 10 stars, I would. In one of the most anxiety producing situations I’ve had with him, the staff remained calm and caring. He has since fully recovered. Dunkin and I thank you for all your work and kindness.

I rarely write reviews but I feel this place deserved it. I had to put my pet rat down yesterday. He had cancer and started to deteriorate quickly. I didn't want my young children watch him suffer over the weekend. My vet couldn't fit me in so I called premier and explained the situation. They were absolutely wonderful. They immediately got me in and put me in a private room. They allowed me as much time as I needed with my boy. Every single person I encountered was wonderful. Thank you so much for your compassion premier.

I brought my 9 week old kitten into Premier Saturday morning when I found him limp and lifeless. Amazingly, the fluids, warmth, and Dextrose brought him back, and with ample supportive care at home, he is doing well. I am grateful he is alive and making progress, but I have been traumatized by my experience at Premier Group in Grayslake. I was met with hostility and extreme ultimatums by multiple technicians. Without any discussion of how the kitten had responded to initial treatments, without any discussion of possible diagnoses/prognoses/options for treatment, without having any conversation with an actual vet, I was pressured to decide to either commit to the unknown cost of care (literally told “going balls out”) or euthanasia. I wanted more time and to see how he responded and also to speak with someone from the rescue he was adopted from just days before. Someone new to me came into the room, did not introduce herself and very sternly said, “It’s time to make a decision” so I chose to end his suffering. The receptionist then asked if If like to be with him, which I did. When they brought him in the room, he was alert, holding his head up, looking around. Why didn’t they tell me anything about his condition? I saw him again filled with life, there was no way I could euthanize him. By the grace of God, as I was visiting with him, the woman who runs the rescue called me, and she helped me to advocate and ask questions to find a moderate humane approach to helping this kitty. When the tech came back in, I told her that I could not believe how he was behaving and could not euthanize him like that. She told me it was just the Dextrose and once it wore off he’d crash. I asked again for more time, to see how he does, to speak with a vet about options and likely outcomes, and in a gruff and rude manner she agreed “but not without a deposit.” I was then told it would be $1500 BEFORE I COULD EVEN SPEAK TO A VET. (I ultimately did not pay that deposit). When the vet, Alexandra Resnick, came in, I was sure to let her know how inhumane I found it to be asked to make such an extreme decision without any relevant knowledge about the cat’s improving condition, without speaking to the vet or anyone knowledgeable about the possibilities, without seeing the cat. She could not acknowledge that I had a right to those basic things before making such a decision. She did provide answers to my questions in a professional manner, and ultimately I took my kitten home and have been administering the treatment we decided on. I honestly feel as though I was taken advantage of in an emotional state and that the general staff that day lacked compassion and empathy. I have had a very positive experience here in the past with an old kitty who had an abscess rupture, but after this ordeal, I will never bring another pet to this clinic.
