How to Save Money at Sackman Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’m very disappointed with the level of customer service and lack of professional care provided. My dog had an issue with her health which required labs in 2022. After this appointment I had been told that the office would follow up to schedule an appointment with repeat labs, and this never happened. My dog is fine, but a year later now I recently received a post card with the things my dog is due for including the repeat labs that should have been done last fall. In addition, they mentioned how they needed to see my dog before renewing her Simparica trio- which is reasonable. But a week later they also denied my dogs special diet food with Chewy…WAY too last minute, as they said my dog has to be seen within a year to receive the authorization. Now, I understand their are certain legal things that need to be accounted for when running a business and I also know that she was due for her annual appointment soon, but didn’t think anything of this. So, when they contacted me on a Monday after my chewy auto ship food order should have been delivered the Sunday before, this became extremely inconvenient as she has a very sensitive stomach and we were running very low on her food. We’ve had previous Vet care that would provide a couple single cans until she could be seen to renew her order etc, and they didn’t even offer that! At this time we have decided to take our business elsewhere, to a Vet who will hopefully be able to better communicate with their paying clients. But wait there is more- if you ever need your pets records for any reason, they only fax them. Be warned that they REFUSE to email records to you (the owner) or anyone for that matter- so be mindful as this will require a special trip. Again, just horribly dissatisfied and wanted to put this on here so others can be informed of what they may be walking in to at Sackman Animal Hospital

Dr. Sackman, Donna & the staff have been working with our family for now 2 generations. She took care of my dads cat Blackie & now 3 other of our pets. I personally travel an hour away to see them with my two babies Loki Bear & Mr. PeanutButter. We truly trust her with our pets lives and she has been there for us through it all. Thank you to everyone at Sackman animal hospital for everything you do.

Dr. Sackman and staff are all incredibly kind and helpful with our two kittens. They've made themselves available for us with any questions or concerns as new, first-time cat owners and are always professional and timely in response as well as for appointments. We greatly appreciate their care!

Dr. Sackman and her staff are wonderful… they are not only are so good with my dog, they’ve helped out a friend’s dog by getting them in quickly as a new patient and also recommended quality end-of-life services and guidance for my father-in-law’s dog, who was in a desperate situation. They went above and beyond. The vet techs really seem to care, and I always feel like my pup is in the best hands. Can’t recommend them enough!

I started going to Dr. Sackman when I got my Labrador puppy in 2008. From the start, my dog had awful allergies and would break out in hives and hot spots often. Dr. Sackman is our hero! She saved my dog's life on several occasions, squeezing us in when a random reaction would occur, or on a day that she was booked, offering to let me bring my dog in so she could look at her in between appointments. Dr. Sackman IS the only veterinarian at this clinic, so if she is booked she will try her hardest to fit in a sick animal if she is able to. I now have two cats that I rescued and Dr. Sackman has helped me get both of them back into a healthy condition from when I got them. The clinic is very family-like. The techs and Doctor know their clients, are highly informative, and are extremely caring. I recommend this clinic and doctor to anyone that wants thorough, quality, pet care.
