How to Save Money at Dundee Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I really wanted to thank Dr. Kindra and Nurse Carrie for being there for me when I had to make a difficult decision to put down my best friend Gypsy after she suddenly became extremly ill. I'm from Illinois but currently living in Canada and I was visiting family, so I was scared about my girl's declining health and not having my primary Vet in the area. They were so kind and caring and helped me feel like I was in a safe environment. I felt that they really cared about Gypsy's well being and they talked to her and she was given lots of pets and love. They were patient with me while I spent sometime talking to her before I said my final goodbye. Carrie brought me a beautiful paw impression after Gypsy was gone. Gypsy was my world and I was thankful to be in the presence of such wonderful doctors and nurses.

My family has always taken our dogs to Dundee. The staff here is so amazing they really show that they care about your pet. Unfortunately we had to put our dog down almost two years ago and that was the hardest thing I have ever had to go through. The staff were so loving towards my dog and my family. I remember petting my dog and a nurse came in and was rubbing my back telling me that it was going to be okay I never looked at her face because I wanted to hide my tears but I realized she was crying with me. Some of the nurses remembered my dog and came in and said their own goodbyes. A couple days after we put our dog down the hospital sent a letter to us. Saying how sorry they were and so much more. It was really such an amazing thing I don't know any animal hospitals that do things like this. I wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else.

Our 3 year old GSP was diagnosed with epilepsy last year. This evening she was unable to come out of a seizure. We raced her to Dundee Animal Hospital. From the moment we walked in the door, they were all so compassionate and knowledgeable! Dr. Cacioppo was phenomenal with our her! Thank you Dundee Animal Hospital! Highly recommend!

What an awesome team!! Our cat had an emergency and thankfully they were able to help us out- we drove over an hour just to get our baby girl the help she needed as our local emergency vet was at capacity and no longer accepting any more patients as they were short staffed. The vet was so kind and put us at ease, he took such good care of our cat. He explained everything to us and exactly what she treatment she needed. I would recommend to anyone facing a pet emergency- it is worth the drive! We called ahead of time just to make sure they could help and we couldn’t be happier with the choice we made. The front nurse was also wonderful, greeted us with smiles and good conversation. Thank you so much!!

So thankful I found Dundee Animal Hospital! I can’t recommend them and their staff enough! My dog suffered a very large wound getting caught on our gate latch and after calling three different hospitals, and being told, they can’t help because “they close soon” I was really worried about getting him in to see someone right away. As soon as I called Dundee animal hospital, their staff was friendly and helpful and he was able to get in very quickly despite them being very busy at that time. They checked him out right away and got him into surgery ASAP. Dr. Gurevich was so friendly and explained everything to us. He was even the one to call and let us know. Surgery went well. Thank you!
