How to Save Money at WestVet Meridian 24/7 Animal Emergency & Specialty Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cat Mabel was barely a year old and was committing, not eating, not going potty. Lethargic and started to be malnourished. After consulting for two weeks with our regular vet I took her here. I was SO SCARED. She’s our baby. We have three kittens and everyone loves Mabel to death. She’s our family. We came here and got her checked in. We waited about 29 minutes before someone came to grab here then it took 3 hours for someone to come in. They only got busy after we arrived so I’d say make sure your phone is fully charged and if you have kids make sure you can keep them entertained! We showed up about 7:30, left about 11pm. They gave me a brochure for a care credit to help. I did not qualify, but my normal veterinary covered the cost. I left and was informed since my vet payed my vet would contact me with updates. WestVet is VIGILANT on updating you. I got many. My cat went into surgery. She had eaten silicone attachment to straws my mother gave my kids for Easter. My kitten LOVES silicone. She used to eat my ear plugs. I did not anticipate her eating the silicone because they were huge pieces. Her kidney levels were bad to. Luckily she made it perfectly out of surgery and she made it out of WestVet with better kidney labs. My vet met me and gave me medication and food for her. I got discharge papers in what medication to give her, when, and the healing process. My cat came home with a commoner head. Obviously so she wouldn’t tough her stitches. We were informed to keep her in a room by herself so she could heal and eat her food. A bland food diet is a must after a surgery I was informed and it could take up to 5 days to pass a bowel movement. WestVet was wonderful. There waiting room was nice and clean. They had a water fountain with cups and a mini fridge. A nice clean bathroom. Open livens of communication. Everything you’d want in a veg. I couldn’t have picked a better place to take my kitten. It’s 4 days past operation and she’s doing so well. She’s back to her normal quirky self and tried to eat my ear plugs which I put away immediately. No more silicone for this kitty. I’m so thankful with the care they provided for her and how open they were about everything. WestVet is very professional. I’d highly recommend

We had to take our sweet momma cat into their clinic late at night. They were kind, caring and compassionate from the time I called them to the moment we left. Neither baby ended up making it but they were wonderful with our poor cat. I can’t recommend them highly enough, from the gal at the front desk, to the gal who came and got her from me, the vet herself and the tech who discharged us, they made us feel that they were as concerned for our cat’s wellbeing as much as we were. They also don’t charge an arm and a leg to take care of your furry family member in their moment of need. Thank you so much!!!

Amazing place and vet. Clean new facility. Friendly staff. My cat started going down hill fast on the weekend and they were able to get him in and offered a new treatment plan than what we was currently on from the primary vet. This plan worked! He is now on the mend. Super knowledgeable! Thank you!

We had to take our Pomeranian to WestVet on Ten Mile Rd to have him put down. Worst day of my life but the staff at WestVet were just wonderful. They arranged for cremation, an urn & his pawprints on a plaque and they sent us a card that everyone signed. It was very touching. Thank you, WestVet

We had to take our puppy there. The service was outstanding right from the get-go. The receptionist was polite. Then she called the vet techs. Both ladies were friendly and caring. Eventually we talked to the vet and she was wonderful. Unfortunately, we had to put our puppy to sleep but what a caring place. We prefer not to take our animals to the animal ER but we will take them here every time now.
