How to Save Money at Pawspital Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had our 1st visit with Dr. Smith and Tech Hannah today. Dr. Smith was great with our pups even sitting on the floor with them. He was very thorough and listened to all of our concerns, giving us several options to best help our fur babies. Tech Hannah was very knowledgeable and was also very kind and gentle with our 2 boys. Most importantly, the visit was extremely stress free for our dogs. Thanks so much Dr. Smith and Tech Hannah.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had been looking for a new vet and I recently took my mini Dachshund to Pawspital Animal Hospital for our 1st vet visit, and I couldn't be more impressed. Dr. Smith was exceptional—thorough, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring. The clinic was clean, and the staff were welcoming and professional. Dr. Smith took the time to explain everything and made sure all my questions were answered. I felt confident if I had to leave my doggies, they would be in great hands. Highly recommend Pawspital Animal Hospital! ---

On a recent trip to Boise Idaho my dog was not feeling well the next day. Of course I panicked. My daughter made a call and Dr. Smith said “bring her in”. He met us at the door and immediately took her and examined her. My dog felt comfortable with Dr. Smith. I loved how he was on the floor with her, assuring her that she was going to be OK. His whole attention was on my dog. He prescribed her some Medication and by that afternoon, my dog felt better. Thank you to Dr. Smith and his staff. I will continue to take my dog to Dr. Smith when visiting my family in Idaho. Him and his staff are the best thank you Pawspital Animal Hospital.🏥

Love the Pawspital! Brought my rabbit to Dr. Smith and couldn’t be happier. As any experienced rabbit owner knows, bunny health can take a turn fast and then it’s critical to get great care fast. I was able to get a same day appointment and when I arrived I found the staff very professional and caring. Dr. Smith clearly cared for my rabbit like he was his own, and I couldn’t be more grateful for his knowledge and expertise. In particular, he was able to help me sort through a lot of misinformation from well-intentioned rabbit owners who were trying to give me advice. I’m so glad to have a great rabbit vet locally now, and will certainly be back! Thanks Dr. Smith and team!

Customer for life! We used to take our St Bernard/Poodle (Noodle) to Banfield but they were so expensive and I hated how I was expected to drop him off at the front desk and come back later to pick him up, that’s got to be so scary being taken away from the only people you know and passed around and put into a cage. They labeled him as aggressive and told us that he needed to be picked up without having anything done because he was barking at their staff. We had to reschedule our appointment and sedate him hours ahead of time and they muzzled him as soon as we arrived the next time. Enter Dr Smith…I love how friendly his staff is (hi Morgan!) and that instead of having a fixed table in the room he got down on the floor and played with him. Noodle picked up on the friendly vibes and was 💯 cooperative even when he got shots. Dr. Smith performed a gastropexy and neuter on Noodle and while he was operating he said he could feel a small ball in his stomach so he called us and got permission to get creative with the surgery and remove it at the same time, possibly saving Noodle’s life. He clearly goes over and above the call of duty and genuinely cares about the animals he is entrusted with. We will never go anywhere else and you shouldn’t either! ❤️🐶❤️
