How to Save Money at Intermountain Pet Hospital, Overland
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am so grateful I found Dr. Hunt and Intermountain Pet Hospital. My German Shephard Dog Koda had a bad experience at a previous vet when he was a puppy and it has made him very difficult to exam and treat for all vets. Dr. Hunt and his assistant examined Koda and treated his ear infection in the back of my vehicle to accommodate his fear. On another visit, when Koda had a run in with a porcupine, Dr. Hunt sedated Koda in my vehicle before they carried him inside to remove the quills. Dr. Hunt is always so calm and explains everything in detail. Thank you for being so understanding, I appreciate it more than you know.

I brought my dog in for a hurt paw, I have to say I ADORE Dr.Lynch she was so amazing with my anxiety reactive dog. I have never seen my dog so calm at a vet office. He was giving her little kisses, going up to her for pets, and even laid down while we talked. She gave me very reasonable options but suggested the option that benefited my dog having a positive experience instead of causing anxiety. She will be the only vet I will go to, very positive, kind, and took the time to look at everything I was concerned about. She really shows she loves what she does.

I appreciate them being fear free and they really go at your animals pace giving medications to calm if needed. Very knowledgeable and willing to listen and have you join in on their care plan. I’ve used IPH for over 10+ years.

Very friendly and professional staff. We brought our new puppy in for the last round of puppy vaccines and will start bringing our other dogs here as well. Definitely would recommend!

I had been bringing my animals here for over 5 years. Both my adopted cats had been seen by multiple vets here. Ashley Kimbel will go down in history as the worst vet I have ever had. I had brought my cat Salem in with facial swelling. After 3 trips we scheduled a dental as that is what they told us would be the next step. After the exam in the morning Ashley Kimbel Suggested that we have a cranial Xray done, my husband and I agreed. We waited several hours for the vet to call back to tell us that she had a cancerous tumor in her face and that we would need to discuss if we wanted to "wake her up." As devastated as we were my husband and I made the tough decision to say goodbye to our beautiful girl, only for us to call back and have Ashley say "wait hold on. I'm going to get a second opinion." After we had already been told to decide if she was going to live or die. We waited another few hours for her to call back and say " it is in fact cancer, but it sounds like you need more time with her so we are going to take these bad teeth out of her mouth and as long as she keeps eating you can keep her home." I was already beginning the grieving process, just to be made to feel like I was the one not ready to make the decision that was best for our girl. After verbalizing with the doctor how upset I was with being told to decide if we were going to say goodbye to our girl just to be told, after we decided it was okay to come be with her to cross the rainbow bridge, just to have her turn around and say it sounded like I needed more time. WHO WOULDNT WANT MORE TIME WITH THEIR ANIMAL. We went to pick our girl up, the doctor didn't come out, didn't greet us, didn't dicuss how to keep her comfortable. Didn't even bother telling the nurse who brought her to us that she had a terminal illness and to discuss what we should look for. She was passed to us, with 4 less teeth, knowing she didn't have a good outlook, and some pain management. She told me she wasn't in any pain. But two days later when Salem was straining to go to the bathroom and forcing so hard she was throwing up we took her into the emergency vet. He disagreed with them taking her teeth. He told me she was in serious pain. And we inevitably said goodbye to our beautiful girl the Sunday following the 1200 dollar procedure to remove her teeth and for them to make US feel like we are the problem. There was no empathy from Ashley. Just an email saying yeah, I can work on that. Don't bring your cats here if you want them to be treated with love and care. Especially not to Ashley. She'll just charge you money for something you weren't in the right headspace to say yes to and ignore you. My Baby SUFFERED for 2 days because you didn't do the right thing. I will never forget that. I tell everyone who will listen.
