How to Save Money at WestVet Boise 24/7 Animal Emergency & Specialty Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Thank you to the staff for the compassion they not only showed my husband and i but to our sweet little guy. We lost our Dashell suddenly at 3:30 am the 9th, i called and was given information on what to do. Once we arrived they helped us navigate the cremation process, getting his paw prints , nose prints plus fur and allowing us time to properly say goodbye. The vet tech working was so kind with how she handled him from softly petting his head and playing with his ear which he always loved. So thank you

This post is mainly for the facility. It's been almost a week but my dog is good now no thanks to westvet. I went here cause my dog had bad GI. As I wasn't sure what to do at the time, it was late at night while she was pooping blood. Decided to go here knowing it's an expensive place. It would be better off if they told me to go home and let her skip a meal and feed her boiled chicken and rice but in small portions and progress it later on. No, I had to look up things myself since the directions I was giving seemed to focus on the royal canine GI wet food when she showed no interest for it. Going there felt like another day for them taking another dog in. To leave with only a blood drawn (which I was grateful knowing the test came back great and breathing was good) and paying $670 just for her to get an enormous cyst on her neck that was infected giving her a 104 fever. Turned to be a bigger problem for myself and my dog.

Hazel Nut injured her back and I came here for a second opinion. All the staff at West Vet have been amazing. They responded quickly and listened to my concerns. Dr. Mooney and Amanda on the Neurology team are the best. Dr. Mooney explains everything fully and is a great surgeon. All the front desk staff have also been super great to work with. Great place for competent care on pet emergencies.

I don't know where to start, sadly I lost both my sweet babies this year. My sweat baby dog Sierra (14 1/2 Yrs) in July and my sassy kitty girl Emily (19 Yrs) just last Friday the day after Thanksgiving. It has been extremely difficult without my babies but I was so very luck to have them for so many wonderful years, WestVet was so compassionate and caring. Both my babies had strokes and there wasn't anything to be done at their age but to let them cross the rainbow bridge and not suffer. Both times WestVet made the most horrible experience the best they possibly could, thank you for all you did during such an awful time in our lives we truly appreciate your kindness!!!

Absolutely hands down 100% competent and it shows! .... Dr. Walker and the entire staff did an outstanding job on both our fur babies! I wouldn't go anywhere else. When my little lady (yes, my mother even says.. Lola is not a dog, she's a little lady) needed some major dental work. I was worried beyond belief... But after my initial visit with Dr. Walker I walked out knowing Lola would be in GREAT hands. A year later when our other little lady (Coco) needed major dental work. I knew EXACTLY where to go! .... West Vet on Chinden Blvd! Mind you all, Lola is 14 years old and 2.2 lbs. at 14 years, she is very active and eats everything. The procedure made a HUGE difference on her. I see the same in Coco. They both recovered 100%. They are family members of our pack! Would I recommend them? .... Absolutely... YES! To Dr. Walker and the entire staff.... Thank you! I will forever be indebted to you!
