How to Save Money at Idaho Humane Society Veterinary Medical Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This place is a complete joke tried calling 3 times and left voicemails with no response. I need medicine for my dog and I came within the business hours and they had a sign on the door “Closed 2:00-3:30”. How the hell am I suppose to get ahold of these guys if they never answer the phone and closed during business hours. If it was possible I would leave negative stars. Save your time and money go elsewhere.

Came to get my cats follow up vaccines. Closed at the stated walk in time(3pm), had to sit I'm the car with my stressed cat until they open again. Nowhere in the website or anywhere we're people made aware of this

I had an appointment for my dog to look at his ears a few days ago. The only time they could get him in was 4:30 which is not a time you want to be in traffic in a city like this. I left my house early, but the traffic was horrible due to an additional accident. I called the hospital and left a message that we would be about 5 minutes late. When we arrived at 4:35 there was a line to the front desk. We waited for 10 minutes in the line before they called us up. The assistant came from the back, I'm assuming from a break. When she called us up she informed us that my dog could not be seen because we were late and the nurse came out and called us at 4:40 and no one answered. At that time we were in the line. I stated I heard no one call anyone in at that time. Which by the way she could not have known because she was not there. In a disrespectful tone she said, "Well, I disagree with you!" At that point, I told her we would be looking for another vet office with more respectful assistants. With the same tone, she asked if I wanted my dog's records. I would understand if I would have gotten there at 4:45, but I was there at 4:35 and left a message. On top of her attitude, this was the 2nd time she had been rude to me in the last 2 months. I can't remember her name or I would share it. I know she sits at the back of the desk and is slightly chubby, that is just a description, not a criticism. I would recommend being 15 minutes early to this place and not going to the woman at the back of the desk on the left.

This place is an absolute joke. My dog's toe fell off from having so much cheap grass in between her toe and her foot, This stuff is so embedded, he was supposed to remove all of these things when we went in on Friday but he told me she didn't have them but clearly she does because she's now missing a toe and her other pinky toe is about to do the same thing due to the same problem. They don't let you go into the exam room and show them what the concern or the problem is, nor do they provide opportunity for two way discussion. Your dog can't talk. So how are they supposed to discuss what the hell is wrong and let me tell you, these guys are morons. He thought a bb gunshot wound was ringworm. Need I even say more? They just kept pushing getting her fixed, that's all they wanted to do was fix her.. But how tf can i trust them w that when they can't take care of the cheap grass in her foot, Yeah.. We're going to have to continue searching for another veterinary clinic. This one is pathetic & sorely awful, laughable even were my life a dark comedy. I mean with their knowledge and Non-existent use of skills that i have seen.. i mean and who cares what the vet tells you in person? As long as their notes say that they did everything they were supposed to, it's all okay 100% guaranteed. It's a joke like I said. I hung up on the lady because she was not worth my time, clearly weve already wasted too much of that on this plae while my dogs suffer in the meantime. Your pet can't advocate for itself.. I wouldn't even waste your time or your money. They charge you way more Then it's fair for the services. They will actually provide you and you'll get better treatment and the same medicine with an online clinic for $11. Ive included pics where she has cheap grass but no more little toe. She has thorns and other stuff embedded everywhere. He was supposed to stop her suffering but failed miserably

The staff is patient and thoughtful. They have always treated my pets and me with kindness and genuine concern. Unfortunately, when I go there it's usually to have one of my elderly or sick rats put to sleep. They offer the service at a more cost effective fee than anyone else I have found in Boise. I appreciate the work they do and I recommend them.
