How to Save Money at Animal Wellness Veterinary Clinic- Anja Hunter DVM

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Hunter and her team are the best in the business! It is the first time my dogs have been excited to go to the vet- they get loved on and taken care of! Dr Hunter is extremely knowledgeable and thorough, and I love her mix of traditional and homeopathic options. Our 15 year old lab is a perfect example of Dr Hunter’s “magic” - before we found her, our lab was in a lot of pain, not very mobile or energetic; now she is thriving and spunky as ever, with the right meds and supplements, and the occasional acupuncture. We appreciate you Dr Hunter- the world needs more of you!

I don’t think we could move from here because we love Dr. Hunter, her staff, and her adorable clinic! It’s difficult to find a vet that works hard to be up to date with current research, focuses on holistic wellness, and truly listens and cares to provide the best possible care for our pets! We feel treated like family from the second we walk in the door, our dogs are given her full attention, and I always learn something new. She is different than most vets out there in all of the best possible ways and I am so thankful we have her as our vet!

Dr. Hunter is amazing. She takes time to listen which helps with accurate diagnoses. It is easy to see how much she cares about her clients and patients. The vet techs and receptionists are well trained, caring and communicative. The clinic is well organized, clean and exceptionally beautiful inside with wood window trim and hardwood floors. I love everything about this clinic!

Dr. Anja Hunter has been our go to vet for nearly a decade. She is kind and thoughtful and always takes the time to listen to what is going on with your pet while doing a very thorough examination. One of my favorite things about her is that she will always try the least invasive, holistic approach first. She's trained in acupuncture and cold laser. The first time I met her was to get acupuncture on my dog who had started having sudden balance and mobility issues. My regular vet at the time told me it was arthritis and dismissed me with some pain meds, but it seemed so sudden that I wasn't convinced. Upon my second acupuncture appointment, Dr. Hunter started asking more questions and became convinced upon further examination of the dog along with my descriptions, that he likely had a brain tumor. She referred us to a hospital that was able to do an MRI and they confirm he indeed had a very large brain tumor causing his balance and mobility issues. After that, I knew I could trust Dr. Hunter. She will get to the bottom of whatever is going on. She is well read and keeps up on current medicine and innovation. She is also very kind and lovely to be around and is always very gentle and patient with me and my animals. She will be our vet until she retires. I cannot recommend a more qualified and professional vet for your animals.

My sweet Kiddy Boy wasn’t walking a few weeks ago and I was at a loss. Dr. Anja is saving my boy with one needle at a time. He had his third week of acupuncture and he has shown so much improvement. He has been slowly walking and standing again. While lying on the table getting his acupuncture he jumped up on the table at his latest visit. This is massive! He hasn’t done this in so long. We can’t thank Dr. Anja enough for saving Kiddy Boy!
